DUPONT — On Sept. 27, the VFW on 401 Main St. will host a fundraiser called Help Robin Beat Breast Cancer.

A spaghetti dinner consisting of a salad, bread with butter and a dessert will be prepared by the Dupont VFW Post 4909 kitchen. Proceeds from tickets at $12 each, as well as raffle baskets and 50/50, will cover medications, medical care, travel and living expenses for Marine veteran Robin Davis O’Brien.

Robin was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer in 2023. Prior to this, she was diagnosed with HER2 positive breast cancer in 2017. She is receiving chemo for a third time but with a different drug. Her last option of hope is to explore clinical trials, which would require her to travel depending on where they will be held, she said. She hopes to find a clinical trial within a distance of a few hours, she said.

“This process is difficult to navigate as the type and stage of cancer may be difficult to match as well as me being healthy enough to receive the treatment,” Robin said. “Often times, my chemo treatments are delayed because my white blood count is too low, I have a fever/infection, or I need a blood transfusion.”

Although the past two years have been a challenge to her faith, Robin learned to accept and surrender to her path.

“I pray to God daily and I believe in miracles, but I’ve also accepted that death is part of this life,” Robin said. “I wake up grateful every single morning that I have another day to live and be with my family.”

Robin joined the U.S. Marines right after high school. From 1988 to 1998, she was an armorer, where she repaired weapons, pistols and machine guns. She later moved into Motor Transport. She is also a mother of three children: Caitlin, 29; Danny, 28; and Haley, 25.

Raffle baskets will be donated by Robin’s friends and family members.

“I’m overwhelmed by the love and support from family, friends and my community,” Robin said. “I know I am important to my children and close friends and family, I didn’t know how impactful I’ve been on so many others lives, it’s very humbling.”
