Kyle Zaboski of Wyoming Graduates from Special Jesuit Liberal Arts Honors Program at Scranton

SCRANTON — Kyle Zaboski, of Wyoming, was among 37 members of The University of Scranton’s Class of 2021 who graduated from its Special Jesuit Liberal Arts Honors Program, which is one of Scranton’s programs of excellence. Students in SJLA pursue a rigorous education designed to develop enhanced writing, oral and critical-thinking skills through specially designed courses in philosophy, theology and literature.

Peyton Mcnulty named to UVM dean’s list

BURLINGTON, Vt. — Peyton Mcnulty, Class of 2023, has been named to the dean’s list for the spring 2021 semester at the University of Vermont. Mcnulty, from Pittston, is in the College of Arts and Sciences. To be named to the dean’s list, students must have a grade-point average of 3.0 or better and rank in the top 20% of their class in their respective college or school.

SCRANTON — Denise L. Pinto, of Pittston, was among the 21 members of The University of Scranton’s Class of 2021 who graduated from its undergraduate Honors Program, which is one of the Jesuit university’s programs of excellence. Students in the Honors Program pursue a rigorous education that stresses independent work through close engagement with professors and other honors students, including the preparation, presentation and defense of a research or creative project during their senior year.

Pinto graduated, magna cum laude, as a biochemistry, cell, molecular biology major.

Rebecca Abreu Earns Spot on NCC’s spring 2021 dean’s list

BETHLEHEM — Northampton Community College (NCC) is proud to announce that Rebecca Abreu has been named to the dean’s list for the spring 2021 semester.

Rebecca, a general studies major from Pittston, was one of nearly 2,000 high-achieving scholars who earned their place on the NCC Dean’s List this past semester. The honor is reserved for students who have completed a minimum of 6 credits and achieved at least a 3.5 grade point average on a 4.0 scale in the semester.

Ryanna Power named to Bridgewater College’s spring 2021 dean’s list

BRIDGEWATER, Va. — Ryanna V. Power, of Pittston, was named to the spring semester dean’s list at Bridgewater College. Power is a junior majoring in digital media arts.

Power was among more than 450 students named to the dean’s list, which was announced by Dr. Leona A. Sevick, provost and vice president for academic affairs.

Students on the dean’s list have attained a 3.4 or better grade point average of a possible 4.0. Any student who earned all A’s for a perfect 4.0 grade point average for the 15-week semester is identified with an asterisk by the student’s name.

Bridgewater College is a private, four-year liberal arts college located in the Central Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. Founded in 1880, it was the state’s first private, coeducational college. Today, Bridgewater College is home to more than 1,600 students.

Joshua Woodworth earns a spot on the dean’s list at Coastal Carolina University

CONWAY, S.C. — More than 2,100 undergraduate students at Coastal Carolina University were named to the dean’s list for the spring 2021 semester, including Joshua Woodworth, a Marine Science major from West Wyoming.

Students who make the dean’s list have achieved a grade point average between 3.5-3.99 for the semester.

Corey Mruk of Exeter named to Springfield College dean’s list

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — Springfield College has named Corey Mruk from Exeter to the dean’s list for academic excellence for the 2021 spring semester.

Mruk has a primary major of exploratory studies.

The criteria for selection to the dean’s list are as follows: The student must have completed a minimum of 12 credit hours of graded coursework for the term, exclusive of “P” grades. The student must not have any incompletes or missing grades in the designated term. The student must have a minimum semester grade average of 3.500 for the term.

Lehigh University Class of 2021 graduates

BETHLEHEM — During Commencement ceremonies on May 24, 2021, Lehigh University conferred 1,295 bachelor’s degrees, 549 master’s degrees and 104 doctoral degrees. Of the nearly 2,000 graduates, degree recipients came from 45 states and 36 countries outside of the United States.

Jason DeBoard of Avoca recognized for service as resident assistant, e-Mentor at Wilkes University

WILKES-BARRE — Jason DeBoard, of Avoca, a senior at Wilkes University, was recognized for service as a resident assistant. He was also recognized for service as an e-Mentor. DeBoard is a biology and neuroscience major and received the undergraduate degree in May.

Wilkes University’s Office of Residence Life recognized the students for their service. Resident assistants are hired on the basis of character, leadership, and their ability to interact with students. All of them undergo extensive training so they may readily meet the needs of residential students. The primary function of the resident assistant staff is to build a community, which is crucial to a successful residence hall living experience. They practice an open-door policy and are available day and night should students need them.

First-year student e-Mentors are upperclassman who provide experience and support to incoming students at Wilkes University. While the program begins at orientation, e-Mentors work with thier assigned group throughout the fall semester to offer guidance and knowledge that will help with the transition to college life. The program helps each new student connect with peers, upperclassmen and the institution as a whole.

Exeter resident Stephanie Palovchak named to spring 2021 dean’s list at DeSales University

CENTER VALLEY — Theatre and marketing major Stephanie Palovchak of Exeter was recently named to the dean’s list for the spring 2021 session at DeSales University. To qualify for dean’s list, a student must have a minimum 3.50 GPA on no fewer than 12 credit hours.

Jillian Balberchak of West Pittston recognized for academic achievement at The University of Scranton commencement

SCRANTON — Jillian M. Balberchak, of West Pittston, was among graduate students recognized for outstanding master’s and doctoral degrees at The University of Scranton’s in-person graduate commencement ceremony on May 22. At the ceremony at Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza, Wilkes-Barre, the University conferred post-baccalaureate degrees to more than 500 graduates who had completed their academic degree requirements in August and December of 2020, as well as January and May of 2021.

Balberchak received the Outstanding Student Award for Nurse Anesthesia.

Pittston Area Sr. High School graduate honored at university awards luncheon

SELINSGROVE — Gabriela Rubino, of Pittston, was honored with the Taylor Holloway-Brown Award for Outstanding Senior in English-Publishing & Editing Award at Susquehanna University’s annual student awards luncheon, held each May in the days leading up to commencement.

This award recognizes a graduate of the program who brilliantly exemplified the editorial acumen, entrepreneurial spirit, and leadership skills to which publishing & editing students aspire.

Rubino majored in English at Susquehanna. They are a graduate of Pittston Area Sr. High School.

Selena Forlenza named to dean’s list at Ithaca College

ITHACA, N.Y. — Ithaca College student Selena Forlenza of West Pittston was named to the dean’s list for the spring 2021 semester.

Harding resident, Sarah Strazdus named to Worcester Polytechnic Institute’s spring 2021 dean’s list

WORCESTER, Mass. — Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) has announced that Sarah Strazdus, a member of the class of 2021 majoring in mechanical engineering, was named to the university’s dean’s list for academic excellence for the spring 2021 semester.

A total of 2,148 undergraduate students achieved the criteria required for WPI’s spring 2021 dean’s list. The criteria for the WPI Dean’s List differs from that of most other universities as WPI does not compute a grade point average (GPA). Instead, WPI defines the dean’s list by the amount of work completed at the A level in courses and projects.

Ryan Petrucci named to Middle Atlantic Conference Academic Honor Roll

ANNVILLE — Ryan Petrucci, of West Wyoming, was named to the Middle Atlantic Conference’s (MAC) 2020-21 Academic Honor Roll.

Petrucci, a graduate of Wyoming Area High School, is a member of the Lebanon Valley College baseball team.

The academic honor roll is comprised of student-athletes who compete in varsity-level sport and register a GPA of 3.20 (on a 4.00 scale) or higher for the entire 2020-21 academic year.
