The parishioners of St. Michael Byzantine Catholic Church, 205 N. Main St., are very excited once again to host their Annual Flea Market and Ziti Dinner on Saturday, July 31, and Sunday, Aug. 1.
This fundraiser for the church features an indoor flea market and homemade ethnic food. If you love finding treasure and authentic Eastern European food, there is plenty of both to be found here.
Featured is a longtime favorite: St. Michael’s delicious halupki (stuffed cabbage), also known by locals as “piggies.” There will also be melt-in-your mouth pierogi. Many of the parishioners will be spelling and pronouncing them “pirohi” in the tradition of their Carpatho-Rusyn ancestors. But they taste great no matter how you say it.
Not to be forgotten on the menu is halushki (sauteed noodles and cabbage). And if you’d like a taste of each, the ethnic sampler of all three delicacies will convince you to want more. That is almost guaranteed. Potato pancakes, of course, round out the menu. Additional lunch items include sausage and peppers and outdoor grilled hot dogs.
The featured ziti dinner is a generous amount of pasta with homemade sauce and meatballs, salad and bread. Ziti dinners are takeout only. Pickup on Saturday (noon to 4 p.m.) and Sunday (10 a.m. to 3 p.m). Donation cost is $12 for adults and $7 for children. Tickets can be purchased at the door.
The fresh-baked goods tent will be Saturday only. You are sure to find it tempting!
The Flea market is in the lower-level church hall with entrance from the parking lot; some food stations will be outside. Busiest time is always doors opening on Saturday. Stop by any time as listed both days to find plenty to search and taste. Doors open 9 a.m. Saturday and Sunday.
Parish volunteers look forward to seeing our returning and new friends alike. Our pastor, Fr. Andrii Dumnych, and his family, along with Deacon Larry Worlinsky, invite all. You can find us online at www.stmichaelsbyzantine.com.
