It’s time for me to give in and acknowledge it’s time for comfy clothes weather. Sweaters, sweatshirts, long sleeve T-shirts, sweatpants, and hoodies seem to be the order of the day.

What has surprised me is that the trees are still fairly green with a mix of color in the valley.

Last weekend I took a drive to the northern tier and the colors were at peak condition. It’s just amazes me each and every autumn how beautiful the landscape across Northeastern Pennsylvania really is. I know we are the envy of many that don’t live here and how homesick others might be that used to live here.

Let’s not talk about what will come in the next few months. I hope everyone has his or her furnaces serviced for what has yet to come.

The annual Pittston Area-Wyoming Area game was held this past Friday, and the conditions were less than desirable. Okay, it was downright miserable.

Perhaps if Wyoming Area did not have their Ring of Pride ceremony schedule for the game, it would have been an easy decision to postpone to Saturday (which also called for rain) or even a Sunday or on a rare Monday night game.

Considering playoff games impending, having to practice only four days to face an unknown opponent is not a great idea.

Of course, each and every year when the annual game comes around on the calendar, some of the older folks love to talk about the rivalry game played at Thanksgiving. For as much fun as that was, I’m glad it doesn’t exists any longer. I never thought I’d say that, but it’s true.

Most of us are traditionalists and for the few short years that Thanksgiving game was held, there was nothing like gearing up for the game, bundling up, getting to the stadium, taking in the game, and then getting home to defrost in time for the big turkey dinner.

That was the best part of the tradition.

It’s hard to believe 10-weeks of the regular football season is over and it’s still about four-weeks from Thanksgiving. That really made for a long season for coaches, players and families. The playoff system wasn’t that elaborate as it is today, therefore all this extra time between the last regular season and the state championship game is utilized for all the playoff system.

If memory serves me correctly, there was usually a two or three week layover from the next to last regular season game to the annual Thanksgiving Day game.

I had the chance to shoot the Hanover Area-Nanticoke Area rival game this past Thursday night. They decided, as a few other Friday night games in NEPA, to reschedule to Thursday night. It wasn’t a bad move considering all the rain heading our way.

Before the game started, I had the chance to chat with one of the sideline judges. I noted how fast the 10-week season seemingly flew by and he agreed. He told me there were only two games this season where he needed to go with the long sleeve official shirt. He said it was mild enough Thursday that he could have gone with a short sleeve.

That may have been all well and good for him, but I was sticking to my hoodie sweatshirt.

After I told the official that I was not a winter person, he said he was. I’m shivering just thinking about winter, but yet he said he bought a quad during COVID and he was looking forward to riding it in the snow this year.

I questioned him on why not just buy a snowmobile, and he said he never thought of it. He may have a point since you can’t use a snowmobile during the summer, but with a quad, you can use it all year round.

My second thought on the evening on Thursday, as well as Friday, was, for senior football players, cheer squad, and band members, it was possibly be the last football game of their high school career.

Time sure waits for no one, as the saying goes, but my third thought of the evening was, I wish I was their age to have my whole life ahead of me.

During the PA game at WA, it’s really nice the Wyoming Area Football Alumni Assoc. honors former player and people at large that have been affiliated with the football program. It’s the school’s Hall of Fame if you will.

In addition to the eight men inducted into the Ring of Pride, the 1980 Wyoming Area football championship team was honored.

Again, it’s just a pity the weather was not cooperating that evening.

Halloween will take place tonight and the weather is promising to be better for the ghosts, ghouls, and what have you dressed up for trick or treat.

Wherever you trick or treat, I hope everyone has a great time tonight.

Stay safe and Happy Halloween to all.

Quote of the week

“Everybody wants to be famous, but nobody wants to do the work. I live by that. You grind hard so you can play hard. At the end of the day, you put all the work in, and eventually it’ll pay off. It could be in a year, it could be in 30 years. Eventually, your hard work will pay off.” – Kevin Hart

Thought of the week

“Watch your thoughts; they become words. Watch your words; they become actions. Watch your actions; they become habits. Watch your habits; they become character. Watch your character; it becomes your destiny.” – Lao-Tze
