The Housing Authority of the County of Luzerne announces a ribbon cutting ceremony for Dupont Housing for the Elderly took place on Thursday, April 21, 2022, at 11 a.m.

Dupont Housing for the Elderly is located at 611 Walnut St. in Dupont on the site of the former Ben Franklin Elementary School.

“Affordable housing is an integral component of vibrant communities. Dupont Housing for the Elderly is an example of how the combined efforts from the Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency (PHFA) Low-Income Tax Credit (LIHTC) program, the PHFA Housing Trust Fund, the Luzerne County HOME program, the Luzerne County Housing Trust Fund and the equity by the Enterprise Community Housing Investments, have come together to have a meaningful impact on our community,” said Executive Director Barry Yohey.

Dupont Housing for the Elderly is a service-enhanced community providing affordable housing for seniors 62 years of age and older. It is designed to serve seniors, who can live independently and meet the guidelines put forth by PHFA, Americans with Disabilities Act, and Enterprise Green Communities Criteria.

The development consists of 36 residential units in a three-story elevator building with grade level entrance on the first floor. The facility offers an area on the first floor as community space for social gatherings, dining, parties, etc. All 36 units are comprised of one-bedroom units. Dupont Housing for the Elderly has 4 one-bedroom units which are considered accessible units, and these will be occupied by a mobility impaired person requiring the special design features of these units, age 62 or older. The site surrounding the facility is designed to encourage full outdoor utilization of the patio and walkways that meet ADA standards.
