WEST PITTSTON – Rosella Fedor dedicated her career to education and community service, leaving a lasting impact on the Wyoming Area School District and the West Pittston community.
As the outgoing chair of the Wyoming Area Scholarship Program, the Wyoming Area Class of 1970 decided to show their appreciation for Fedor by creating a scholarship in her name for the 2025 campaign.
Fedor served as the Class of 1970’s advisor along with the late Dave Dembowski.
“We wanted to honor her for all she has done for the students, past and present, including our Class of 1970,” Diana Giovannini, Wyoming Area Class of 1970 representative, said. “We as a class felt it was the thing to do and she needed to be honored and we chose her.”
Fedor was thrilled and excited the Class of 1970 honored her.
“My sincerest appreciation for selecting to honor me with a scholarship awarded from the 1970 class,” Fedor remarked. “How lucky are Wyoming Area graduating seniors to have such a scholarship program and funded by so many generous Wyoming Area donors, in this case from members of your WA Class of 1970. I am honored, humbled and so grateful to have a scholarship awarded in my honor.”
Her passion for teaching and her ability to connect with students earned her respect and admiration from both colleagues and pupils.
Even after retiring from her teaching position, Fedor’s dedication to education did not wane. She channeled her energy into initiatives that continued to support and uplift students in her community.
In 2008, Fedor approached then Wyoming Area Superintendent Raymond Bernardi to gain support to start a scholarship program uniting scholarship donors with recipients. Bernardi agreed and the first-ever Wyoming Area Scholarship Celebration was born in 2009.
Recognizing the need to support graduating seniors, she assembled a team including Juel Anne Klepadlo, Teddi Rabel and Carmella Magyar, to establish a program that would grow in both scope and financial support over the years.
Under her leadership, the program began to grow each and every year, making the program one of the most successful high school scholarship programs in the region.
The program’s resilience was evident as it continued even through the pandemic years of 2020 and 2021.
Fedor served as chair of the scholarship program since its inception until 2025, working closely with Klepadlo for most of those years. She found Klepadlo’s support and guidance invaluable as an acting faculty member.
In a 2017 letter to the editor in a local newspaper, Fedor credited Klepadlo as a crucial participant in the program’s success, highlighting their collaborative efforts and the support of the board of education, administration, and entire Wyoming Area staff.
She also admitted she could not run the scholarship program without the help of Rabel and Carmella Magyar eventually becoming a well-oiled machine.
Because of Fedor and her team’s effort, in her last year as full-time chair of the scholarship program in 2024, Wyoming Area senior graduates received approximately $391,000 in scholarship money.
“I am so proud of this program,” Fedor said. “It has helped so many Wyoming Area grads reach their dream of graduating from college. Working with some the donors to establish this award was touching. It showed me that Wyoming Area grads are very special as well as generous, dedicated, motivated and kind.
“I am confident that the generosity shown to the students by donors has helped students realize an education beyond high school,” Fedor added. “Who knows it may inspire them to continue the tradition of offering scholarships someday. It is already happening. I am overwhelmed by the generosity of your donors as well as so many others.”
Beyond her work with the scholarship program, Fedor contributed to the community as a member of the Board of Trustees for the West Pittston Library.
Fedor also held the position of Special Program Advisor for the Wyoming Area School District, coordinating events such as College Night, Scholarship Information Night, and Financial Aid Night, as well as organizing the annual Scholarship Celebration.
Her commitment to education and community service has left a lasting legacy in West Pittston, demonstrating the profound impact one individual can have through dedication and collaboration.
