Wyoming resident presents research in Paris

DALLAS TWP. —Wyoming resident Tia Spagnuolo, C.F.-S.L.P., recently took part in a student-faculty research team in the Misericordia University Department of Speech-Language Pathology and presented studies at the Society for Functional Near Infrared Spectroscopy Biennial Meeting in Paris, France.

The team’s research topics, “Using fNIRS to Compare Hemoglobin Concentration Changes in Typically-Fluent-Speakers and Persons-Who-Stutter,’’ “Using fNIRS to Measure Cerebral Hemoglobin Concentration Changes of Typically-Fluent-Speakers Using Delayed Auditory Feedback,’’ “Use of fNIRS in Assessing Motor Learning and Voice,’’ and “Using fNIRS to Assess Brain Changes as a Result of Voice Therapy,’’ utilized the innovative technology, Functional Near-Infrared Spectroscopy or fNIRS.

Grandson of Duryea residents earns Eagle Scout

LEESBURG, VA — Matthew Newcomer, grandson of Rosemary and Bob Kundrat, of Duryea, recently achieved the rank of Eagle Scout.

Newcomer, 14, is a member of the Leesburg Troop 982 and has been a scout for seven years.

He obtained his Eagle Scout ranking by overseeing a crew of over 20 scouts and 10 adults in building multiple wood stands for the Izaak Walton Conservation League

Newcomer will attend the National Jamboree in Bechtel Summit, West Virginia later this year and Bechtel High Adventure in 2018, and a second trip to Northern Tier in 2019.

Residents team with local program

DALLAS TWP. — Misericordia University students Christa Porasky, Falls, and Matt Gromala, Pittston Township, recently partnered with Reaching Beyond Limits, Kingston-based day program for adults with autism spectrum disorder and intellectual disabilities, with their Department of Mass Communications and Design class.

The students helped create a new website for the organization and materials that can be used to market its services.

Residents named to dean’s list

LEWISBURG — Pittston residents Nicole Chaiko and Matthew Obeid were both recently named to the Bucknell University dean’s list for the 2016 fall semester.

Herron earns dean’s list

WILKES-BARRE — Emily Herron, of Pittston Township, daughter of Ron and Kelly Herron, has been named to the dean’s list at Wilkes University.

Herron is a junior in the pharmacy program and also obtained her pharmacy intern license issued by the state of Pennsylvania.

Gutkowski earns dean’s list

PHILADELPHIA — Michael Gutowski, West Avoca, was named to the dean’s list at Temple University’s Fox School of Business for the fall semester.

Gutkowski is a sophomore majoring in Economics and has attained a 4.0 grade point average. Additionally, he has gained acceptance into the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, as well as the Golden Key International Honour Society.

He is the son of Babe and Jeanne Gutowski.
