It has been reported in Pittston that the Rose Valley operation, Gerardsville, of the Adonizio Coal Interests has been closed down and as a result the central office force of the Company in Pittston has been dismissed.
Several of the rumors making the rounds in town were that the Adonizio Interests had retired completely from the coal business, but no credence was given to these by officials.
One official explained that when the Gerardsville operation, employing 530 persons was shut down, it naturally resulted in a layoff at the local office. However he said the local operation, Packer colliery will continue to work.
The Adonizio Coal Interest were founded by Pasquale Adonizio, known better in mining circles as Tony Rose, who is now in Florida.
Listed among the laid off local personnel according to reports are Charles Adonizio Jr., purchasing agent of the company; “Doc” Dadamo and Patrick Fino.
The shutting down of the Gerardsville operation was caused, according to reports, by the need for developing work, which is now in progress. It is hoped to resume operations at the colliery when the development work is completed.
