WEST WYOMING — Several dozen children showed up for the Disney in the Park Halloween extravaganza sponsored by the Wyoming Free Library at Ralph Dailey Memorial Park on Oct. 13.

This year was the fifth gathering for Halloween and the fourth themed event, according to library director John Roberts. Previous themes were Star Wars, Snoopy, and Charlie Brown.

Parents, guardians and library staff escorted the children, dressed in costumes, from the West Wyoming Borough building on the corner of Slocum and Eighth Streets to the park. The children were asked to dress in their favorite Disney, Pixar or Marvel costume.

The event was Trunk or Treat-style with eight community organizations such as the Wyoming Area Kiwanis, the King’s College Education Club and private citizens handing out candy and small gift items.

Along with passing out treats, activity stations, refreshments and door prizes were offered.

“This started with just a basic Halloween party and it just built itself up over the years,” Roberts said.

The Halloween parties were held in Wyoming for the first three years and in West Wyoming for the last two. The library services Wyoming and West Wyoming Borough residents.

In addition to treats for the children, items were collected for Blue Chip Farm Animal Rescue.

“I contacted Blue Chip; they said they would like paper products or dog food,” Roberts added.

King’s College seniors Hannah Bruseo and Courtney Wagner, who are both planning to become teachers after graduation, took part in the Halloween celebration.

“King’s College Education Club helps out a lot with the Wyoming Free Library events and we like to volunteer our time,” Bruseo said. “It gives us future teachers a chance to see the kids outside of the school setting so we can better understand them. It’s important to give back.”

Angie Yorina, of Wyoming, brought along her two teenage daughters, Kaylee and Cara, 18 and 16, respectively.

“We have been going to the library since Kaylee and Cara were little when they had story time and other things,” Yorina said. “We are a part of the Facebook page and saw they were having a Trunk or Treat and decided since the girls are older that we would do the Trunk or Treat.”

The Yorinas decorated their car and table in the Disney character Nemo.

According to Roberts, the next library event will involve children making Christmas items for their parents and family. The Christmas event date has yet to be announced.
