Toys for Tots Drive

From now until Dec. 20, you can drop off an unwrapped toy at the library. We are open from noon to 7 p.m. Monday and Thursday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, Friday and Saturday. Your generosity will help bring joy to less fortunate children in our area this Christmas. We’re grateful to be teaming up with ServPro for this year’s Marine Toys for Tots Foundation.

The Pittston Memorial Library, in conjunction with Amy Baylor from LCCC, will host a free, three-week program for parents and their child and visit classic children’s authors that have been loved for generations. Through the warmth of the author’s stories, you will learn meaningful activities to help your child at home to develop important reading skills. You and your child will enjoy learning about the authors, listen to a story, and do special activities or crafts that will be remembered for a lifetime.

Movie Night

Frosty Movie and Pajama Night is from 6 to 6:45 p.m. Dec. 10. Grab your blanket, favorite cozy pajamas and join us for a screening of “Frosty the Snowman” in the John P. Cosgrove Center.

Deer Snowglobe Craft

We invite you to join us at the library as we enjoy some holiday fun for kids and adults from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11. Make your own snowy family ornament together, Bring your glue gun and register for this fun free craft. Space is limited. call us at 570-654-9565 to register.

Book drive

Join us at Barnes & Noble Dec. 15 as we collect books for our entire library system during the Holiday Season. Store is located at 250 East End Center, Wilkes Barre. Vouchers are now available at every Luzerne County library.

TEEN PROGRAMMING

A Very Potter Christmas

Join our TAG group for a “Very Potter Christmas” at 5;30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13 We’ll be hanging out and making our own Potter themed ornaments for our trees and celebrating the Yule-Wizarding style.

TWEEN PROGRAMMING

Tween Hangout Club

Tweens, join us for a Harry Potter holiday-themed Hangout Club at 4:15 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13. Make some holiday ornaments and hang out with your fellow Tween Wizards. Program is open to tween wizards in grades 4-6. Registration required by calling the children’s department at 570-654-9565, ext 26

‘A Christmas Carol’

West Pittston Library presents “A Christmas Carol” at 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13.

Get traditionally festive as the WPL, along with local authors and poets, including Amanda J. Bradley, Barb Taylor, Erin L. Delaney, Adam Keehl and Micah Bauman, present a dramatic reading of Dickens’ classic “A Christmas Carol.” Ghosts of Christmas past and yuletide refreshments will abound.

New York City bus trip

A Christmas bus trip to New York City will be held Saturday, Dec. 15.

Dear Santa: All our friends want for Christmas is an inexpensive bus trip to NYC. Done. It’s back: Our popular holiday bus-capade, delivering you to the heart of NYC and back home again without you even having to touch your car keys. The bus leaves West Pittston at 7 a.m. and departs NYC at 7 p.m. Cost is $30 per person and the seats fill up fast. Must pay in person at the library (non-refundable).

Cookie recipe exchange

A cookie recipe exchange with Kendra will be held at 6 p.m. Monday, Dec. 17.

If you are bored with the same cookies at every holiday gathering and need some new ideas, join us for a cookie recipe exchange. Bring a sample of your favorite cookies for taste testing, as well as copies of your exact recipe to share with everyone. Leave with a belly full of homemade cookies and a head full of great new ideas. Free, but registration is a must. Please call 570-654-9847.

The Literary Snoops Book Club now meets at the West Pittston Library at 12:15 p.m. the second Wednesday of each month. Participants are encouraged to bring a bag lunch for the discussion.

WYOMING FREE LIBRARY

Christmas Community Event

A special “Twas the Night Before Christmas” event will be held from 1 to 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 9. Wyoming mayor Joseph Dominic, will read the book, ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas at 1:30 p.m. Activities and refreshments will be provided. The holiday event is open to children of all ages. Registration is required by calling the library at 570-693-1364.

LAFLIN PUBLIC LIBRARY

The Laflin Book Discussion Group will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 10 in the library to discuss the book “Ordinary Grace” by William Kent Krueger. New members are always welcome.
