Two locals recognized at Wilkes

WILKES-BARRE — Nicholas Filipek, of West Wyoming, and David Zydko, of Duryea, were among more than 95 wilkes University students, faculty and staff recognized at the Extracurricular Awards Luncheon for their contributions to activities outside the classroom. The event was held April 25.

Filipek received the Outstanding Leadership & Service Award presented by Department of Communications Studies.

Zydko received the Outstanding Senior Intern presented by Office of Career Development and Internships.

Bus trip planned

The United Methodist Church of Pittston is sponsoring a bus trip to Hunterdon Hills Playhouse on Wednesday, Sept. 11 to see Neil Simon’s hit play “Barefoot in the Park.” This hilarious play ran on Broadway for five years and was a winner of the Tony Award. There are seven selections for your table-served entree plus dessert buffet. Price of the trip is $100 (includes bus, meal, coffee, hot tea, show, tax, gratuity and driver tip). Musto inducted into society

KUTZTOWN — Evan Musto, of Exeter, was inducted into the Mu Xi chapter of Phi Alpha Theta History Honor Society at Kutztown University.

Two receive scholarships

WILKES-BARRE — Matthew Booth, of Exeter, and Kayla Wedlock, of West Pittston, were among more than 200 Wilkes University students who received scholarships, along with the donors whose gifts made the scholarships possible, at the annual Scholarship Luncheon on April 4. Booth was recognized for receiving the The Ruth Boorom Melberger ‘62 Scholarship. Wedlock was recognized for receiving the The Ruth Boorom Melberger ‘62 Scholarship.

Moyer presents research

BLOOMSBURG — Krysta Moyer, of Pittston, was among students from the Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania College of Liberal Arts (COLA) who presented their research to an audience of their peers on April 24, during the 2019 COLA Research and Creative Projects Day. Moyer presented her project, titled “The Disney Effect: How Disney Music Influences Children’s Musical Response.”
