Five named to dean’s list
KUTZTOWN — Five Greater Pittston students are among more than 1,750 students named to the spring 2019 dean’s list at Kutztown University. They are Elizabeth Baiera, of Pittston Township; Sarah Frances Baylor, of West Pittston; Bridgette Marie Brandt, of Duryea; Emily R. Earlley, of Pittston Township; and Kyle J. Musto, of Exeter.
Lockhart presents research
DALLAS TWP. — Cassandra Lockhart, of Exeter, a history and secondary education major at Misericordia University, presented her research findings in the poster presentation, “The Reasons for the Prominence and Prevalence of Serial Murderers in the 1970s and 1980s” at the annual Student Research Poster Day in Sandy and Marlene Insalaco Hall. The scholarly presentations were the culmination of research and work by 204 student researchers in the College of Health Sciences and Education and the College of Arts and Sciences
Lockhart studied common denominators in the backgrounds and lives of serial murderers Jeffrey Dahmer, John Wayne Gacy, Ted Bundy and Gary Ridgeway, and whether factors such as a troubled childhood and an ability to blend into society impacted their proliferation during the two decades.
Five receive MD degrees
SCRANTON — Greater Pittston residents were among 99 who were conferred doctor of medicine (MD) degrees by Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine (GCSOM) Sunday, May 5 at the F.M. Kirby Center in Wilkes-Barre.
Those receiving thier MD degree were David Dorbad, of Exeter; Stephen Mazurkivich, of West Wyoming; Jacob Parrick, of Duryea; William Preston, of Duryea; and Thomas Sewatsky, of Pittston.
Akoury receives award
WILKES-BARRE — Wilkes University Nesbitt School of Pharmacy student Jamie Akoury, of Pittston, received the Lackawanna County Pharmacists Association Jurisprudence Award at the spring 2019 commencement ceremony. The award is given to the student who achieved the highest course grade in the pharmacy law course. Akoury was awarded the doctor of pharmacy degree.
Pennington helps plan conference
SCRANTON — Victoria Pennington, of West Wyoming, was among the 15 University of Scranton students who planned and hosted high school students and regional business professionals for the inaugural University of Scranton Social and Digital Media Conference held on campus in the spring semester. Pennington is a strategic communication major.
Pittston native in Navy
YOKOSUKA, Japan – Fireman Apprentice Alissa Dorsey, a native of Pittston, said she wanted to give back to those who gave to her, and she always had a great appreciation for the veterans in her life and veterans in general. So she joined the U.S. Navy.
Now, a mere year later and half a world away, Dorsey serves aboard the guided-missile cruiser USS Antietam, patrolling one of the world’s busiest maritime regions as part of the leading-edge of U.S. 7th Fleet.
