DALLAS TWP. — The Pennsylvania Associated Press Media Editors recently awarded a Ralph Flamminio Memorial Scholarship to Misericordia University student Zoe LaPorte, of West Pittston, at the annual awards ceremony in Harrisburg.
LaPorte, an English and mass communications and design major, is the web editor of The Highlander student newspaper in the Department of Mass Communications and Design at Misericordia.
During her tenure at The Highlander newspaper, LaPorte has worked as a features and investigative reporter, multimedia editor, social media producer and photographer for the university’s award-winning newspaper. She also broadcasted sporting events for Misericordia’s television station, MCN 87, and hosted a show on Cougar Radio during the 2018-19 academic year.
LaPorte is a graduate of Wyoming Area High School.
The scholarship award honors the former editor of The Morning Call in Allentown and Coatesville Record. It salutes outstanding Pennsylvania college students who best display the ideals of Flamminio, who was passionate about journalism and the First Amendment, and a champion for a better-informed citizenry.
