Spring hours: Monday and Thursday, noon to 7 p.m.; Wednesday, closed; Tuesday and Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The library’s summer hours will go into effect Saturday, June 15 with Saturday hours being 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Summer Reading 2019

Register for Summer Reading 2019 at the Pittston Library. Join us this summer as we travel through A Universe of Stories. Stop by the library to register for Summer Reading and pick up your Reading Logs for little ones through fourth graders or READ-O sheet for fifth graders through adults. There’s something for everyone. More info on programming coming soon! Registration begins Monday, June 3.

Make grocery bag mats

Learn how to make grocery bag mats for our homeless community. The response to this program has been overwhelmingly positive. We are very excited to launch the program this coming June.

We have three course opportunities. Please come to ANY or ALL of the dates as listed below:

Course 1

Tuesday, June 11, and 18 at 1 p.m.

Course 2

Thursday, June 13, 20, and 27 at 6 p.m. .

WEST PITTSTON LIBRARY

Creativity Club

Thursdays to June 13, 3:45 p.m.

This four-week after school club will have kids in grades 2-6 exploring their artistic side! Each week, children will complete a few solo projects and contribute to one big collaborative project to be completed by the end of the series. Each class builds on the previous week, introducing kids to different mediums and techniques. Class size will be limited for this series, so be sure to register early!

Week 1: Art Can Make You Famous – Learn about famous artists and their well-known masterpieces.

Week 2: Introduction to Color – Meet the color wheel and many of the color schemes contained in it.

Week 3: Color in Numbers – Discover Pantone colors and more color schemes.

Week 4: Digital Art – Explore a host of creative drawing apps and experiment with photo editing.

Monday, June 17 — The Luzerne County Beekeepers Association present a program for National Pollinator Week at 6 p.m.

Saturday, June 22 — Boyd Hitchner shares the story of the Hitchner Biscuit Company at 1 p.m.

Sunday, June 23 — West Pittston History Day with the West Pittston Historical Society. Come to the library, scan and copy your historic documents and photos from 1 to 5 pm.

Summer reading quest

Our summer reading quest this year will launch on June 21 with the theme “A Universe of Stories” Ages 3 to teen!

We’re blasting off into space this year, and we hope hope you’ll come along for the ride. Activities, including book talks, games, and crafts will revolve around Stars, Star Wars, Space Travel, the Moon, the Planets, the Milky Way, and Aliens!

Teens on Wednesdays

6 and under on Fridays

To get in on the action and learn more, attend one of our registration time slots on Friday, June 21 at 12:15, 1:00, 1:45 or 2:30 p.m.

Book Club

The Literary Snoops Book Club now meets at the West Pittston Library at 12:15 p.m. the second Wednesday of each month. Participants are encouraged to bring a bag lunch for the discussion.

Summer Reading Club registration

Registration for summer reading will begin Monday, June 17 at 10 a.m. Parents can call the library or register in person. A complete list of activities is available at the front desk, on the library web page and Facebook.

Scholastic Book Fair

The library will host a Scholastic Book Fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 15-18. Call the library for more information.

RailRiders fundraiser

The library is having A Night at the RailRiders fundraiser on Friday, July 19 at 7:05 p.m.

Tickets are $12 each and proceeds from the fundraiser go to the library. Ticket order forms are available at the library.

Gertude Hawk candy bar fundraiser

The library is selling Gertrude Hawk candy bars. Available flavors are peanut butter, crispy, caramel, solid milk and dark chocolate. Each bar is $1. All proceeds benefit the Wyoming Free Library.
