The Old Forge baseball and softball teams were each eliminated during the first week of the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association state tournaments.

The Lady Devils won a first-round softball game in Class A before having their season come to an end in Thursday’s quarterfinals.

The Devils were knocked out in the first round of the Class A baseball tournament Monday.

Williams Valley 14

Old Forge 0

District 11 champion Williams Valley ended Old Forge’s season with Thursday’s six-inning victory at Central Columbia Thursday.

A five-run sixth inning helped finish off the win when Williams Valley retired Old Forge in the bottom of the inning.

Olivia Shimonis had the only two hits for the Lady Devils.

Denise Evans went 2-for-3 and scored three runs while driving in two from her leadoff spot to lead a balanced Old Forge offense in Monday’s first-round game, also played at Central Columbia.

The Lady Devils ruined Bucktail’s first state tournament appearance.

Old Forge got hits from eight players and built leads of 3-0 after ½ inning and 7-0 after 3 ½ innings.

Camryn Domiano was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.

Winning pitcher Corianne Holzman, who drove in two runs, and Alyssa Wilcox, who drove in one, also had doubles.

Old Forge finished 10-13.

BASEBALL

Greenwood 9

Old Forge 0

Greenwood’s Luke Myers and Aaron Bollinger combined to throw a no-hitter, strike out 14 and pitch to the minimum 21 batters in Monday’s first-round game at Newport.

Cooper Grochowski drew a fourth-inning walk, but Greenwood used a double play to get out of that inning with its 4-0 lead intact.

Myers struck out nine in five innings.

Bollinger retired all six batters he faced, including five on strikeouts.

Bryce Dalpiaz went 2-for-2 and scored three times from the leadoff position.

Greenwood scored three times in the bottom of the first and broke the game open with four runs in the sixth.

Old Forge finished 9-14.
