HUGHESTOWN — Mr. Kevin Booth, superintendent of the Pittston Area School District, has announced that final registration of students who plan to attend kindergarten in the district for the 2019-20 school year will be held Wednesday, Aug. 14 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Martin F. Quinn Pittston Area Primary Center. All students must be 5 years old by Aug. 31, 2019.
Parents may register in one of the following ways:
• Access the online registration site: http://www.pittstonarea.com and complete all required information by Aug. 13 (preferred method).
• Return a completed registration packet and copies of required documentation to the Administrative Office, 5 Stout Str., Pittston, by Aug. 13. Registration packets can also be picked up at the administrative office, if necessary.
The kindergarten screening process will take place Wednesday, Aug. 14 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Martin F. Quinn Pittston Area Primary Center, Rock Street, Hughestown. A parent or guardian must take the student to the Primary Center during the screening time on Aug. 14.
Each child will receive hearing and vision screening. Children will also receive a Reading Readiness Assessment, which is an assessment of pre-reading skills, consisting of two parts: identifying letters of the alphabet and phonemic awareness assessment.
Lastly, immunization history will be reviewed. The following immunizations are required: four doses of diphtheria and tetanus vaccine (one dose administered on or after the fourth birthday); three doses of polio vaccine; three doses of hepatitis B vaccine; two doses of measles, mumps and rubella (MMR); two doses varicella vaccine (chicken pox) or proof of disease.
