How does a pear sorbet infused with white wine sound?
Or coconut ice cream mixed with rum?
If West Pittston is easier for you to reach than, say, a Caribbean beach would be, consider stopping by Boozy B’s, 540 Luzerne Ave., where some of the offerings sound as inviting as a tropical vacation.
This is not just any ice cream parlor; each of the flavors is infused with alcohol, whether it’s whisky spiking the chocolate caramel ice cream in Risky Whisky or vodka adding a kick to the cake-batter flavor of Batter Bomb.
“We started making it for family and friends,” said Autumn Eckert.
“It was a huge hit,” said Bianca Lupio.
Partners in their new business, Eckert, of White Haven, and Lupio, of West Pittston, met at Wegmans, where Eckert worked in the bakery department and Lupio worked “all over.”
They’re excited about becoming entrepreneurs in Lupio’s hometown, and think Northeastern Pennsylvania is ready for the kind of treats they offer.
“There are a lot of bars here, and a lot of places to get ice cream,” said Eckert, who worked five years as a surgical tech before answering the culinary call. “We put the two together.”
Customers must be 21 or older to enter the place. “We will be carding people,” Lupio said.
Once inside, you might want to try a scoop for $4.50 or order a flight of four different flavors for $10.50.
“Each scoop is the equivalent of a mixed drink,” said Lupio, who studied baking and pastry at the Art Institute of Philadelphia. “We’ll also do Jell-O shots.”
Describing a stuffed cupcake that will be on the menu, Eckert said customers will be able to choose what kind of ice cream they would like to have stuffed into a chocolate or vanilla cupcake. “We’ll put whipped cream and a cherry on top.”
The two business owners make their ice cream from scratch, with milk, cream, sugar and eggs.
They hope to eventually cater parties, and they’re planning all sorts of new flavors — perhaps a coffee ice cream with Kahlua and Baileys Irish Cream.
For now, their business hours are 2 to 11 p.m. Saturdays, 2 to 10 p.m. Wednesdays and Thursdays, 2 to 11 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 2 to 10 p.m. Sundays. They will be closed Mondays and Tuesdays.
