EXETER — The Route 92 bridge/Hicks Creek project has been progressing with a nearly $2 million concrete waterway tunnel recently being installed.

Pennsylvania Dept. of Transportation (PennDOT) officials are anticipating the project to be completed by the end of summer 2019.

The bridge collapsed Feb. 16 due to a water pipe break owned by PA American Water Company.

Construction crews have been putting the finishing touches on the tunnel this week.

The next phase will include backfilling over the tunnel, work by utility companies to reconnect service to both sides of Route 92 and, finally, paving the road.

According to a PennDOT spokesperson, 7,000 vehicles travel over Hicks Creek daily.

A five-mile detour route has been in place since the road closed.
