Chair Yoga with Lisa

Financial Aid Night
Monday, Sept. 23 at 6 p.m. in the John P. Cosgrove Center. District high school students and their parents are encouraged to attend this informative session to get a better understanding of the student aid process and how best to begin planning to fund their higher education. A student aid expert from the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency (PHEAA) will be available to provide information and answer questions. The Friends of the Pittston Library are conducting a book drive leading up to their book sale.Bring your books to the John P. Meet the Author
Friends of the Pittston Memorial Library will host “Meet the Author” Sam Chiarelli on Sunday, Sept. 29 at 2 p.m. in the Cosgrove Room. A Pittston native, Chiarelli has been fascinated with dinosaurs’ since childhood. He has written a book entitled “Dig. A Personal Prehistoric Journey” where he takes his readers on a cross-country Amtrak trip leading to museums, prep labs, robotic dinosaur parks, with the final destination to a fossil dig in Colorado. Following a reading from his book, a brief question and answer period will be held. Books will be available for sale and signing. Reservations may be made by calling the library at 570-654-9565. Walk-ins are welcome. Light refreshments compliments of the Friends will be available.
Fall Book Sale
Join us for the Friends of the Pittston Library Fall Fill A Bag Book Sale on Friday, Oct. 4 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 5 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. There is something for everyone. Thousands of new to used books, DVDs, audios and more.
Music with My Friends
Join Miss Janine from MUSICare Project NEPA featuring Music Together for a free one-time intro session to see what their program is all about. This program is for children ages birth through 5 years old and takes place Friday, Oct. 4 from 10:15 to 11 a.m. To register, call 570-654-9565 and ask for Kristin. Space is limited to 14 kids. Fidget Band Service Project
Join members of our crochet and knitting club to make fidget arm bands that will be added to our library’s memory project. You are able to attend as many of the dates as you want but you do not need to commit to all dates. Program will take place Tuesdays from 1 to 3 p.m. and Thursdays from 5 to 7 p.m. in September. Call the library to register. Prior experience knitting or crocheting is required and all finished projects will be donated to the Pittston Memorial Library’s Memory Program. Some supplies will be provided but please feel free to bring your own yarn and embellishments. Please call the library or message the page to reserve your spot.
Art Afternoon
All are welcome to come to the library Friday afternoons from 1 to 3:30 p.m. for art afternoon. Work on some zen coloring in the library or bring your own supplies and work on some crochet, knitting or felting.

Teen Banned Book Week
Wednesday, Sept. 25, 6:30 p.m. The 2019 theme is “Censorship Leaves Us in The Dark.” Speak up for the stories that matter to you by participating in this powerful event. Join our virtual readout by getting your mugshot taken while reading a banned book, sign our First Amendment Freedom to Read poster, fill in a few banned book mad libs to show how much you miss when you censor, and mod podge a few banned book coasters or turn them into a cool wall hanging. West Pittston Historical Society Walk
Saturday, Sept. 28, 11 a.m.
Join us for a West Pittston History Walk. Local historian Mary Portelli will lead a guided tour of The Garden Village, featuring homes of the borough’s early founders along the Susquehanna River, from Warren Street to the railroad bridge. This informative and anticipated walk is an offshoot of our West Pittston Walker’s group. Open to all; registration not required.
Book Club
The Literary Snoops Book Club now meets at the West Pittston Library at 12:15 p.m. the second Wednesday of each month. Participants are encouraged to bring a bag lunch for the discussion.
WYOMING FREE LIBRARY
Gertude Hawk candy bar fundraiser
The library is selling Gertrude Hawk candy bars. Available flavors are peanut butter, crispy, caramel, solid milk and dark chocolate. Each bar is $1. All proceeds benefit the Wyoming Free Library.
LAFLIN PUBLIC LIBRARY
The Laflin Library is located at 47 Laflin Road, Laflin. Library hours are 3 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday through friday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. Phone number is 570-654-3323.
The Laflin Book Discussion Club met at the Laflin Library Sept. 9 which began the fall shared cost session. The book, “The Rosie Project” by Graeme Simsion was distributed and will be discussed on Monday, Oct. 14 at 7 p.m.
The Laflin Library Association will meet Tuesday, Sept. 17 at 7 p.m.
The library will host a pumpkin wreath making evening on Tuesday, Sept. 24 at 6 p.m. with Joann Whispell Robert of Cup of Paint. She will teach us how to make a pumpkin wreath to decorate our home for fall. All supplies will be provided and cost is $30 which is due at time of registration.
