HUGHESTOWN — The Reading and Social Studies Departments of the Martin L. Mattei Middle School of the Pittston Area School District announces it was accepted as a presenter at the 21st Annual PA Public Education Excellence Fair.
This fair was presented as part of a PASA-PSBA School Leadership Conference. PASA is an acronym for Pennsylvania Association of School Administrators. PSBA is an acronym for Pennsylvania School Board Association. This fair was held on Wednesday, Oct. 16, at the Hershey Convention Center, in Hershey.
Representatives from the Reading and Social Studies Departments presented an exhibit on their cross-curricular Holocaust/Tolerance Unit. This unit is presented to seventh-grade students during the fourth quarter of the school year.
Included in the exhibit were a description of what the Holocaust/Tolerance unit entails, examples of student projects, quotes from students on why tolerance education is so important, and photos from a European Holocaust themed trip that Pittston Area faculty and students participated in two years ago.
Student representatives were able to interact with school administrators and school board members from across the state by explaining their unit to them.
