EXETER — All Catholic Schools in the Diocese of Scranton will celebrate Catholic Schools Week of Jan. 26 to Feb. 1. The theme for Catholic Schools Week: Catholic Schools: “Learn, Lead, Succeed, Serve.”

Wyoming Area Catholic School will kick off the week with a Mass celebrated by Rev. Donald Williams, Diocesan Director of Vocations and Seminarians, Sunday Jan. 26 will be at 11 a.m. with student council members leading the congregation through readings, songs and prayers.

Open House is scheduled for Sunday, Jan. 26 from noon to 2 p.m. Families can visit with teachers, parents and student representatives. Various clubs and organizations will be available to speak with our visitors. Refreshments will be served. Frankie Warren from Magic 93 will broadcast live during Open House.

Monday, Jan. 27 – Geography Bee will be held in the morning session.

At 1 p.m., officers and representatives will be inducted into Student Council.

Tuesday, Jan. 28 – Students will participate in a S.T.R.E.A.M. Challenge. (Science, Technology, Religion, Engineering, Arts, Math) All students will be divided into teams and collaborate to complete the challenge. Completion of the challenge will result in points earned for the team. There is a morning and afternoon S.T.R.E.A.M. Challenge.

Wednesday, Jan. 29 – Wacky Olympics/Spirit Day/Student Appreciation. Wacky Olympics will be held in the morning will teams competing in Tug-of-War, Giant Jump rope, Blindfold Basket Ball and Lacrosse.

Afternoon will be a prep rally with the cheerleaders leading the cheers and the annual eighth-grade boys vs. eighth-grade girls basketball game.

Thursday, Jan. 30 – Dress as a Superhero! Students will be able to wear a T-shirt that represents their favorite super hero such as First Responders, Firefighters, EMT’s or superhero characters.

We will partner with the Kiwanis Club of Wyoming Area to accept monetary donations for the program Invest in a Vest and First Aid CAT Tourniquets. This will aid our local First Responders in regards to safety.

Friday, Jan. 31 – Students will show off their unique talents when they participate in the annual Talent Show. The show will begin at 9 a.m. in the school gym/auditorium.

Early dismissal at 11 a.m.

Feb. 3 — 5 to 7 p.m., Wyoming McDonald’s. Face painting, crafts, character visit. Bring your camera to take photos of your students with a special costumed character. Proceeds benefit the Diocese of Scranton Scholarship Fund.

Saturday, Feb. 15 — Wyoming Area Catholic will school will sponsor a Valentine Party & Dance for students.

Schedule of events

5 to 6 p.m. – Party for grades pre-K through third. The PTG will provide Valentine treats and drinks.

7 to 9 p.m. – Dance for fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth grade students. This dance is sponsored by the Wyoming Area Catholic Booster Club. Entertainment and refreshments will be provided.

Student Council project

Wesley Village gratefully accepts new and/or clean, gently used stuffed animals which are awarded as prizes for the residents after some rousing games of bingo held on Monday, Thursday and Saturday. Throughout the month of February, Student Council will collect stuffed toys and will have collection boxes in each homeroom.

Night at the Races

Wyoming Area Catholic School will host its annual Night at the Races on Saturday, Feb. 8 in the gym. Master of Ceremonies will be Frankie Warren from Magic 93. Complimentary food, snacks and soft drinks will be provided. There will be opportunities to purchase trifecta tickets, 50/50, and raffles. Admission is $5 per person. Purchase a horse for the races for $10. Must be 21 or over to attend.
