Mia Nardone continues to lead the way for the Marywood University women’s swimming team.

The junior from Pittston Area already had a decorated career in the works for the Pacers, who were 1-3 before taking a break between competitions Dec. 1 and Jan. 13.

Nardone set multiple school records and was named Landmark Conference Swimmer of the Week four times in her first two seasons at Marywood.

As a sophomore last season, Nardone set school records in the 100-yard individual medley, 200 IM, 100 butterfly, 200 butterfly and as part of the 400 and 800 freestyle relay teams. Her 200 IM record came while finishing third in the Landmark Conference Championships.

Nardone, who had 10 dual meet wins during the season, also finished fourth in the conference in the 200 butterfly and sixth in the 100 butterfly.

The wins have kept coming this season.

In the Oct. 29 conference opener, Nardone won the 200 butterfly and 200 IM during a 165-126 loss at Catholic University.

Nardone won the 200 butterfly and finished second in the 100 butterfly Nov. 4 during a tri-meet loss to Susquehanna and Drew.

Marywood posted its first win Nov 12 over Cabrini University, 140-55, with Nardone winning the 100 freestyle by more than nine seconds and taking part in two relay wins.

Nardone became accustomed to setting records during her days at Pittston Area where she was a four-time state qualifier and won District 2 titles in both the 100 butterfly and 100 backstroke.

The valedictorian of her class was a two-year team captain for the Lady Patriots and set Pittston Area records in the 100 backstroke, 100 butterfly, 400 freestyle relay and 200 medley relay.
