Wyoming Area got its baseball season off and running on Thursday.

The Warriors stole 13 bases on the way to a 10-2 home victory over Valley View in a non-league game at Atlas Field.

Five Wyoming Area players had multiple hits in the game.

Freshman Drew Favata made his varsity debut and went 3-for-3 with two runs, a double, and four stolen bases from the leadoff spot.

Jake Snyder, Alex Vacula, Ben Rogish, and freshman Matteo Argenio had two hits each.

Snyder homered, scored three times, drove in two runs, and had two stolen bases. Vacula doubled twice. Rogish drove in two runs. And stole two bases. Argenio was 4-for-4 stealing bases.

The Warriors led 3-0 after one inning and 7-1 after two.

Snyder also started on the mound and held the Cougars hitless for three innings while walking four and striking out four.

Vacula got the win with three innings of relief in which he allowed a run on four hits and four walks while striking out three.

Ryan Nemshick struck out all three batters he faced in the seventh inning.

Softball

Josie Kivak and Addison Gaylord each had three hits, including two doubles, and scored three times when Wyoming Area opened the season with an 11-1, non-league romp over visiting Dallas in five innings.

Kivak also drove in two runs.

Aubrey Lewis, Ashlee Gustatis, and winning pitcher Alexa Gacek all had two hits and drove in two runs.

Wyoming Area finished off the game by scoring a run with one out in the bottom of the fifth.

Gacek did not walk a batter while striking out four and giving up six hits.

Pittston Area tried to get its season started, but was rained out after 2 ½ innings while leading visiting Holy Redeemer 5-0 Friday.
