Township used a pair of extra-inning, one-run victories to reach the championship round of the District 31 Junior Little League Baseball Tournament.

With the winners’ bracket victory in the four-team tournament, Township has given itself two shots at the championship.

Township will face the winner of a game between Kingston/Forty Fort and Back Mountain Monday. If Township loses, it will get another chance to claim the title Wednesday.

Osman Avila’s single drove in winning pitcher Chris Tibel with the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning of Thursday’s winners’ bracket final.

Kingston/Forty Fort scored in the top of the first, then was held scoreless the rest of the way by Township.

Cody Karboski’s sacrifice fly in the bottom of the fifth tied it.

Tibel struck out five in a four-hitter.

Township 8, Back Mountain 7

Jordan Tonte had the game-winning hit in the eighth inning after Township erased a 5-0 deficit to force an extra inning.

Joey Racavitch went 4-for-4 in the win.

Osman Avila drove in three runs.

Tonte’s game-winner was his second hit.

Michael Larking picked up the win in relief.

MAJOR SOFTBALL

Greater Pittston Area 9, Greater Wyoming Area 6

Greater Pittston Area reached Friday’s championship game when Sophia Kapish doubled twice and Emma Enslin drove in two runs in Tuesday’s win.

Hannah Beekman doubled and drove in a run.

Andrea Colon struck out eight to get the pitching win and also drove in a run.

Harper McHale had two hits, a run and an RBI for Greater Wyoming Area.

Greater Wyoming Area 16, Plains/Kingston Forty Fort 11

Harper McHale hit for the cycle and got the pitching win June 21.

McHale went 4-for-4 with six RBI and four runs scored. She struck out eight in a complete game.

The cycle began with a single in the first inning. McHale doubled in the second as the lead grew to 9-2, then hit an inside-the-park homer in the fourth and tripled in the fifth.

Emma Cornia went 3-for-3 with four runs and an RBI. Mia Bradshaw doubled, singled, scored three times and drove in two runs. Aria Mondelice also had two hits.

Back Mountain 7, Greater Pittston Area 2

Olivia Aten tossed a three-hitter with nine strikeouts and just one walk to lead Back Mountain to the June 21 victory.

Sadie Bomber had two hits and Hannah Beekman one for GPA. Beekman struck out five.

MINOR SOFTBALL

Greater Pittston Area 10, Plains 6

Luciana Zangardi drove in four runs, including three on an inside-the-park home run, to lead Greater Pittston Area into the championship game with the win over Plains.

Lucy Sciandra struck out 15 in a two-hitter while limiting Plains to three earned runs. She also had two hits and drove in three runs.

The championship is scheduled for Sunday at 2 p.m. against Back Mountain, which won the first meeting between the teams, at t8he Ashley Little League.

Greater Pittston Area 18, Plains 13

Greater Pittston Area rallied with a 14-run fourth inning to finish 1-1 in the three-team, round-robin with the June 20 victory.

Lucy Sciandra struck out 10 and had two hits for GPA.

Emma Buckler had a triple, single and three RBI.

Luciana Zangradi had two hits and Chloe Zbysheski doubled in two runs.
