Peyton McNulty helped the University of Vermont women’s swimming team finish 12th out of 21 teams in the ECAC Division I Championships.
McNulty was part of a 400-yard medley relay team that set a school record for the best effort ever by a team of freshmen while finishing ninth overall.
Vermont had finished third out of seven teams at the America East Championships where McNulty, a Scranton Prep graduate from Pittston, placed 15th in the 100 backstroke.

Women’s indoor track and field
Samantha Mayers led off the Distance Medley Relay team that produced the best Saint Joseph’s University finish at the ECAC Division I Championships.
Mayers, a senior from Pittston Area, was part of a ninth-place team.
Earlier this season, the team won the title at the Fastrack National Invitational
Tara Johnson, a senior from Pittston Area, competed in just two events for King’s College, running a 2:30.39 in the 800 and a 5:33.89 in the mile at the Marc Deneault Invitational.
Wrestling
Brothers Ivan and Thor Balavage, Scranton Prep graduates from Avoca, each received Mid-American Athletic Association academic honors for their performances as members of a the wrestling team at Newman University, an NCAA Division II school in Kansas.
Ivan Balavage, a sophomore who wrestled at 184 and 197, received the Scholar-Athlete award, which requires a 3.5 or better GPA along with all-conference honors in competition.
Thor Balavage, a senior 285-pounder, made the Honor Roll for athletes with GPAs of 3.0 or higher.
Ivan Balavage went 13-16 while wrestling up a weight class for most of the season and fifth sixth in the NCAA Super Regional. He was 2-2 at 197 pounds in MAAC dual meets.
Women’s basketball
The series of postseason honors for King’s College senior forward Rebecca Prociak included D3hoops.com first-team All-Atlantic Region and honorable mention All-American honors as well as a selection to play in the Beyond Sports WCBCA Senior All-Star Game.
The Beyond Sports Game, which was scheduled to be held in conjunction with the Final Four, was among the events canceled as part of efforts to contain the spread of the coronavirus.
Prociak, a Holy Redeemer graduate from Jenkins Township, excelled throughout her four-year career at King’s, finishing third in school history with 925 rebounds and fourth in points with 1,537. She was also named MAC Freedom Player of the Year along with her third straight first-team, all-star selection.
King’s reached the MAC Freedom championship game to complete a 16-11 season in which Prociak averaged 17.4 points, 10.3 rebounds and 1.8 blocked shots.
Sarah Holweg wound up playing 24 games, averaging 1.6 points in 5.7 minutes, as West Chester University, a Division II school, went 9-18.
The sophomore guard from Wyoming Area had 10 rebounds, an assist and a steal.
Katie Wolfgang, another Wyoming Area graduate, averaged 4.3 points and 3.1 rebounds in her first season of college basketball at Marywood University.
Wolfgang made six starts for the Pacers (9-16).
Men’s basketball
Patrick Mitchell, a junior center/forward from Pittston Area, averaged 3.2 points and 2.3 rebounds while shooting 55.9 percent from the floor in 17 games while helping King’s College go 13-12.
Nick Prociak averaged 3.8 points and 1.8 rebounds in 12 appearances as a freshman at Misericordia University. The Holy Redeemer graduate from Jenkins Township made his only 3-point attempt while shooting 53.3 percent from the floor and 85.7 percent from the line.
Men’s indoor track and field
Kyle Mlodzienski, a freshman from Pittston Area, competed in five meets, including running a leg of the distance medley relay for King’s College at the Middle Atlantic Conference Championships.
