Victoria Petrosky “grew up on” the golf course at Fox Hill Country Club, the site of her District 2 championship in her junior year as a high school player at Wyoming Area.

Now, Petrosky is back at the club as first assistant professional and director of instruction, positions she took Nov. 1.

“After working as an RN for a few years, I decided to come back to what I truly love and that’s working in the golf industry,” said Petrosky, a former West Pittston resident who now lives in Dallas.

One year each as an assistant at Wilkes-Barre Golf Club and Irem Temple Country Club led Petrosky back to Fox Hill. She continues to add to her training through Professional Golf Association seminars.

“I’m currently at Level 3 of the PGA program,” Petrosky said. “I should be finished in March and have my Class A certification at that time.”

Petrosky is specializing in teaching and coaching within her PGA training.

Golf underwent a surge in interest during the pandemic.

“Retaining the new members and new golfers is going to be imperative moving forward,” said Petrosky, the first to hold the title of director of instruction at Fox Hill. “Creating new developmental programs to keep interest in new and existing members is going to be one of my primary roles in this position.”

Petrosky said nearly 40% of the new players during the pandemic were women and she’s interested in helping grow women’s golf.

As a player, Petrosky is coming off a third-place finish in the inaugural PGA Philadelphia Section women’s championships.

Although serving the membership is a major part of a club professionals job, Petrosky said she is also ready to teach others.

“As PGA professionals, part of our job is growing the game,” she said. “Obviously members have preference, but we do also offer lessons to non-members as well.”
