Adreanna Cunningham and Madelyn Keating led the way Tuesday when Wyoming Area defeated Nanticoke, 111-22, in the girls meet of the Wyoming Valley Conference Division 2 track and field opener at Anthony “Jake” Sobeski Stadium.
Wyoming Area swept the meet, with the boys beating the Trojans, 117-15.
Cunningham won the maximum four events while Keating’s two individual wins included a school record time of 5:21 in the 1600-meter run.
Patrick Branley led the boys victory with two individual and one relay win.
Cunningham won the 100-meter dash in 13.20 seconds and won the 200 in 28.60. She also anchored the winning 400 and 1600 relay teams.
Keating’s other win came when she ran the 800 in 2:24. Her record 1600 win came by more than a minute.
Sofia Gonzales won both hurdles races and ran a leg of the winning 400 relay.
Rosalind Tart won both the shot put and high jump.
Freshmen Ella McKernan and Hannah Stoss also made an impact in their varsity debuts. McKernan won the 400 and was part of opening win in the 3200 relay. Scott led off the 3200 relay and ran a leg of the 1600 relay win.
Samara Campenni teamed with Scott on both relay wins.
Branley matched Keating’s accomplishment of winning the 1600 by more than a minute. He also anchored the 3200 relay win, then added wins 2:18 in 800.
Usamah Alansari, Aaron Crossley and Drew Mruk won two events each.
Alansari won the 110 high hurdles and high jump. Crossley won the 100 and 200 dashes. Mruk won the shot put and javelin.
Pittston Area’s Wednesday season opener in WVC Division 1 against Wyoming Valley West was postponed until Monday.
