Wyoming Area pulled out two close doubles matches Thursday to extend its Wyoming Valley Conference boys tennis winning streak to three matches with a 3-2 victory over Holy Redeemer.
Gabe Cable-Braidon Kostik rallied to defeat Saji Alam-Kevin Coffey, 3-6, 6-3, 6-1, at first doubles.
Nick Cirelli-Eli Harding downed Jadon White-Josh Van Pelt, 6-1, 7-6 (7-3), at second doubles.
Sean Burke provided the other point with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Hunter Wesolowski at third singles.
Nick Winsock took Caleb Hurley to a third set before losing in the second singles match.
Wyoming Area improved to 5-3 and is sixth out of 14 teams pursuing eight or more District 2 Class 2A team tournament berths. Any team with at a .500 record qualifies, allowing for the possible expansion beyond eight teams.
BOYS LACROSSE
Wyoming Area lost twice to fall to 2-6.
Delaware Valley handled Wyoming Area, 19-3, Friday and Scranton Prep won Monday’s game, 15-3.
In Friday’s game, Delaware Valley scored 11 times in the first quarter and led 17-1 at halftime.
Joseph Marranca had two goals and an assist for Wyoming Area. Thomas Kearns added a goal and an assist.
GIRLS LACROSSE
Lake-Lehman defeated host Pittston Area, 15-4, Wednesday.
The loss was the fourth straight for the Lady Patriots following a 3-0 start.
