Hunter Lawall went 3-for-3 with a triple and two runs batted in while Evan Melberger went the distance on the mound Friday as Wyoming Area remained unbeaten with a 5-3 Wyoming Valley Conference Division 2 baseball road victory over MMI Prep.

Melberger scattered eight hits and allowed just one earned run. He threw 63 of his 92 pitches for strikes while finishing with two walks and four strikeouts.

The Warriors, who are 8-0 overall with four of the wins coming in the division, opened a 5-0 lead with two runs in the first and three in the third.

Pittston Area 4, Berwick 3

Pittston Area scored in the top of the seventh inning to break a tie and a two-game skid with the WVC Division 1 victory.

Drew DeLucca got the win with 3 1/3 innings of scoreless relief. He allowed just one hit and also led the offense with two hits and two RBI.

Jeremy Cawley tripled, singled and scored twice. Troy Davis also had two hits.

The Patriots improved to 4-1 in the division and 5-2 overall.

Wyoming Area 12, Nanticoke 1

Jack Mathis capped a huge offensive day with a seventh-inning grand slam in Wednesday’s WVC Division 2 rout at Nanticoke.

Mathis was 4-for-4 with a double and three runs scored to go along with the four RBI produced on his home run.

Wyoming Area scored four runs in the top of the first, then added eight in the seventh.

Hunter Lawall went 3-for-4 with a double, two runs and two RBI.

Winning pitcher J.J. Hood and Evan Melberger added two hits each. Melberger scored twice and Hood drove in two runs.

Hood pitched six shutout innings, limiting Nanticoke to two hits and two walks while striking out eight.

Delaware Valley 17, Pittston Area 3

Pittston Area, which has allowed just 13 runs in its five wins, gave up 35 runs while losing twice in four days, including the April 16, non-league home game.
