Wyoming Area’s Madelyn Keating and Ella McKernan finished first and second in the 800-meter run Friday night in the Red & Black Invitational at East Stroudsburg University.
Greater Pittston had another 1-2 finish in the girls portion of the meet when Scranton Prep’s Avery McNulty, a Pittston resident, and Pittston Area’s Aria Messner went 1-2 in the high jump.
Wyoming Area’s Drew Mruk, in the javelin, and Usamah AlAnsari, in the 110-meter high hurdles, and the Pittston Area girls 400 relay team also won their events.
The Pittston Area girls placed sixth and the Wyoming Area boys were seventh in the team standings.
Keating won the 800 in 2:20.56 and McKernan came in with a time of 2:22.27. Keating was also second in the 1600.
Mruk’s winning javelin throw covered 187-0.
AlAnsari won the 110 hurdles in 15.55 and took eighth in the 300 hurdles. Teammate Nico Sciandra was second in the 300 hurdles and sixth in the 110 hurdles.
The Pittston Area girls finished the 400 relay in 50.88.
McNulty cleared 5-foot-2. Messner was second with 4-10.
Messner added another second in the long jump where teammate Lauren LoPresto was sixth and a third in the 100 dash where Jakiya Kroon was fifth.
Leah Zambetti was second in the discus and fourth in the javelin.
Aaron Crossley was fifth in the 100 dash for the Wyoming Area boys.
The Pittston Area boys were led by David Girman taking third in the 300 hurdles and fifth in the 110 high hurdles. Jalen Moore (400) and Kevin Lockett (javelin) were eighth.
Wyoming Area was fourth in the girls 1600 relay.
Bianca Pizano, in the javelin, and Sofia Gonzales, in the 100 hurdles, each placed fifth for the Lady Warriors. Hannah Stoss was seventh in the 400.
North Hunterdon (N.J.) led 16 teams in the boys standings while Pleasant Valley beat Tunkhannock by five points for first among the 15 girls teams that scored.
North Hunderdon beat out Stroudsburg, 76 1/3-68 1/3.
Wyoming Area was seventh with 37 points and Pittston Area was 16th with eight.
Pleasant Valley’s 65 1/3 led the girls standings.
Pittston Area was sixth with 47. Wyoming Area was ninth with 34.
Northwest Rangers Invitational
Both Wyoming Area teams placed second April 14 in the invitational that drew more than a dozen schools to Shickshinny.
Montrose edged the Lady Warriors, 77-75, and Crestwood beat out the Warriors, 122-97.
Madelyn Keating won both the 800 and 1600 while Rosalind Tart won the triple jump.
Ella McKernan was second to Keating in the 800. Bianca Pizano was second in the javelin.
Drew Mruk won the boys shot put and javelin.
Usamah AlAnsari won the 110 high hurdles. Nico Sciandra, in the 300 hurdles, and the two sprint relay teams finished second.
