SCRANTON – Lauren LoPresto, Aria Messner, Jenna Grieco and Jakiya Kroon teamed to win the 4×100 relay for Pittston Area Thursday night at the 66th annual Jordan Relays.

The Lady Patriots finished the event in 49.97 seconds, beating second-place Abington Heights by 1.47 seconds.

Winning the second of six events helped Pittston Area finish third out of 11 girls teams.

The Lady Patriots scored 27 points, placing behind only Lackawanna Track Conference division champions Abington Heights and Wallenpaupack with 52 and 41 points.

Sprinting proved to be Pittston Area’s strong suit at the meet, which combined the three traditional high school relay races with three medley events combining four legs of different distances.

Pittston Area finished second in the 1200 sprint medley and fourth in the 4×400 relay.

Kroon led off the sprint medley, running a 400, followed by 200-meter legs by LoPresto and Grieco, then a 400 by Messner.

Kroon, Messner, Ali Butcher and Rowan Lazevnick formed the team for the 1600 relay.

The Pittston Area boys were eighth out of nine Class 3A teams with 15 points.

North Pocono scored 58 of a possible 60 points to win the championship.

Pittston Area girls 115, Nanticoke 26

Aria Messner won all three jumps and ran a leg on the winning 400-meter relay Tuesday to lead Pittston Area to the non-league rout.

Jakiya Kroon won the 100 and 200 dashes and anchored the 400 relay.

Pittston Area boys 105, Nanticoke 43

David Girman, Kevin Lockett and Kevin Talipan each won two individual events and one relay Tuesday to lead Pittston Area to the non-league victory.

Girman swept the hurdles and ran a leg of the 400-meter relay.

Lockett won the 100 dash and long jump and anchored the 400 relay.

Talipan led off the 3200-meter relay victory, then won the 800 run and high jump.

Zander Kraklio won the shot put and discus.
