Nick Cerasaro threw a three-hitter and Drew Menendez drove in three runs Wednesday when Pittston Area ruined the last perfect baseball record in District 2, beating host Wallenpaupack, 4-2, in a non-league game.

Cerasaro walked three and struck out two.

Menendez and Anthony Cencetti, who scored twice, were the only two players in the game with two hits.

Troy Davis contributed a hit, a walk, a run and an RBI.

Tuesday’s game was the second of three straight days that Pittston Area played. The Patriots won all three games to extend their winning streak to eight games and improve their record to 12-2.

Pittston Area is fourth in the District 2-4 Class 5A Subregional playoff race, making a rematch with current leader Wallenpaupack a possibility in the semifinals.

Pittston Area 20, Tunkhannock 11

Silvio Giardina and Anthony Cencetti each drove in four runs and were two of the five Pittston Area players that produced three of the team’s 19 hits in Thursday’s victory.

Both players doubled twice.

Jeremy Cawley, Drew DeLucca and Troy Davis also had three hits. Cawley scored four times.

Pittston Area remained the only team with a chance to catching defending champion Hazleton Area in Wyoming Valley Conference Division 1.

The Patriots are 10-1 in the division with three games left, including one at Hazleton Area (11-0) Friday.

Pittston Area 10, Wilkes-Barre Area 0

T.J. Johnson pitched a five-inning, one-hitter in Tuesday’s WVC Division 1 victory.

Johnson struck out six and walked three.

Pittston Area scored four times in the bottom of the first, then two more in each of the second, third and fourth innings to win the game on the 10-run rule without having to bat in the bottom of the fifth.

Drew Menendez doubled, singled, scored twice and drove in two runs.

Dominic Innamorati also drove in two runs.
