Wyoming Seminary ended Wyoming Area’s four-match winning streak, knocking the Warriors out of the District 2 Class 2A boys tennis team tournament in the quarterfinals with a 5-0, home-court victory Monday.
The first doubles team of Gabe Cable-Braidon Kostik took its match to a second-set tiebreaker before falling to Marco Magnotta-Ryan Chun, 6-3, 7-6 (7-4).
Nick Winsock played the most competitive singles match, losing at No. 2 singles to YiCheng Li, 6-4, 6-2.
Vaughn Kutish and Jeremy Han won at first and third singles for Wyoming Seminary, defeating Dylan Stoss and Sean Burke by the same score, 6-2, 6-0.
The Blue Knights won the second doubles match, 6-0, 6-2, with Will Snowdon-Parker Moseley defeating Eli Harding-Nick Cirelli.
Wyoming Seminary fell in the semifinals to unbeaten Dallas, the eventual district champion.
SINGLES
Wyoming Area entered Dylan Stoss and Nick Winsock in the District 2 Class 2A singles tournament that is scheduled to begin Tuesday at 9 a.m. at Kirby Park.
The field of 27 will be trimmed to the four semifinalists with three rounds of play Tuesday. The semifinals and finals are scheduled for Wednesday, beginning at 1 p.m.
Stoss opens against Lucas Carver from Dallas, the tournament’s eighth seed.
Winsock’s first match is against Honesdale’s John Rodriguez.
Valley View’s Luke Kotcho is the tournament’s top seed.
DOUBLES
The first round of the doubles tournament is scheduled for Saturday at 9 a.m. at Kirby Park.
Doubles entries do not become official until after the completion of the singles tournament. The singles champion is ineligible for district and state doubles play.
