Brandon Matthews opened with an even-par round Thursday, but slipped in the second round Friday and missed the cut in his second PGA Tour start.
Matthews shot 70-77 for a 7-over-par, 147 at the Wells Fargo Championship at TPC Avenel in Potomac, Md.
The 27-year-old from Dupont averaged 312.6 yards on his drives in the first round, hitting 10 out of 14 fairways. He hit 12 greens in regulation and had two birdies, two bogeys and 14 pars.
Matthews still averaged 310.1 yards on his drives in the second round, but his accuracy suffered. He hit six out of 14 fairways and eight out of 18 greens on the way to two birdies, nine pars, six bogeys and a triple bogey.
A total of 65 players made the cut by shooting even par or better.
Matthews finished in a 12-way tie for 127th out of a field of 156 players. He played in the Arnold Palmer Championships in 2021 for his PGA Tour debut.
After winning the points race in the 2020-21 PGA Tour Latinoamericas, Matthews early full exemption into this season’s Korn Ferry Tour, one step below the PGA Tour. He is fourth on the season points list in the Korn Ferry Tour.
