‘Discover Ukraine’ 2nd Interfaith Meeting to be held Monday
Many people have been generous in donating to support the people of Ukraine. Now, you can learn about Ukraine and also how donations are helping.
St. Michael the Archangel Byzantine Catholic Church, 205 N. Main St., Pittston, is hosting a program called “Discover Ukraine.” No registration is needed. The event is free and open to the public.
This informational event will feature three presentations. The speakers include Fr. Andrii Dumnych, pastor of St. Michael Church, Pittston, and St. Nicholas Church, Tripp Street, in Swoyersville; The Rev. Myron Myronyuk, of St. Vladimir Ukrainian Catholic Church, Scranton; and a multimedia feature introduced by Rabbi Larry Kaplan, Temple Israel, Wilkes-Barre. Each will address past and present events in Ukraine. The courage displayed by the Ukrainian people today is related to their past experiences of living under oppression. A description of the current crisis and the efforts to help will be shared along with historical perspectives of the Jewish population of Ukraine. In addition, a choir will be present to sing traditional Ukrainian songs. A cake and coffee social with a meet and greet in the lower church hall will follow the program.
The event will be held in the church. Plan to come together with your friends (parking may be limited). Entrance to the church is from the adjacent side parking lot. Please note the church and hall are not fully handicap accessible. For information or questions, you may call Mike at 570-704-6520 or call/text Linda at 570-905-7387.
Anyone still wishing to make a donation for the Ukraine relief effort can do so at this event. Handmade Ukrainian flag lapel pins will also be available for a goodwill offering.
