Jaden Pepe won the 133-pound title Jan. 21 when the two-day Coal Cracker Invitational wrapped up in Lehighton.

Pepe led the Warriors to an 18th-place finish in the 60-team field.

After opening the tournament with four straight first-period pins, Pepe had more work to do in the final two rounds.

Pepe reached the final with an 18-6 decision of Kennett’s Kane Lengel.

The final went overtime before Pepe pulled out a 3-1 decision over Matt Hart from Western Reserve in Ohio.

Pepe was one of two semifinalists for the Warriors.

Anthony Evanitsky dropped two close decisions and settled for fourth place at 145.

Sam Cartella from Western Reserve beat Evanitsky, 4-1.

Evanitsky came back with a pin of Pottsville’s Dalton Monger in 1:35 of the consolation semifinals. He then dropped the third-place match, 3-1, in overtime to Matt Repos from Central Dauphin, the second-place team.

Wyoming Area 48, Nanticoke 24

Jonathan Stone (127), Jaden Pepe (139) and Paul Panek (189) all had first-period pins Thursday night when Wyoming Area won the Wyoming Valley Conference Division 2 match on the road.

The Warriors, who won the title last season, finished 4-1 in the division to place second behind champion Berwick.

Pittston Area 46, Wilkes-Barre Area 23

Pittston Area finished 4-1 in WVC Division 1 and reached the .500 mark overall with Friday’s win over visiting Wilkes-Barre Area.
