Pittston Area kept busy with the District 2 Wrestling Championships approaching.
While Wyoming Area took the week off, Pittston Area went on the road twice, wrestling a pair of matches outside the district Feb. 11, then heading to West Scranton Saturday.
The Patriots went 1-2 to finish 12-14 overall.
Pittston Area 42, Kutztown 30
Dominic Innamorati’s pin in the final bout at 145 pounds gave Pittston Area the win.
The Patriots had a 36-6 lead reduced to six points when Kutztown posted three pins in 5:11 and added a forfeit between 121 and 139.
Jacob Aftewicz (152), Dave Sudo (285) and Oscar Ciriaco (114) posted first-period pins for Pittston Area, which also picked up three forfeits.
Harrisburg 45, Pittston Area 27
Pittston Area moved into the lead at 27-24 before Harrisburg won the last four bouts, two by forfeit, to pick up the victory.
Harrisburg led, 24-12, before Brody Spindler won a decision at 215. Dave Sudo and Oscar Ciriaco followed with back-to-back pins at 285 and 107.
Dominic Innamorati and James Spindler had early first-period pins at 145 and 160.
West Scranton 50, Pittston Area 22
Dominic Innamorati posted a 26-second pin at 139 pounds for Pittston Area in its final match before emphasis turns to individuals and their postseason pursuits.
The Patriots got within 18-16 early on two straight forfeits and a major decision by Oscar Ciriaco at 107.
District 2 Championships
The District 2 Championships are scheduled for Friday and Saturday at Wilkes-Barre Area High School.
Wrestlers will try to advance to Northeast Regionals then on to the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Individual Championships.
Jaden Pepe from Wyoming Area is a two-time defending state champion, who is trying to become a four-time District 2 champion in Class 2A.
Pepe won the state at 120 pounds last season. He is 33-1 this season, 76-1 over the past two seasons and 147-5 for his career.
Sophomore Anthony Evanitsky won the title at 138 and 77-8 for his career.
The Warriors finished second in the team scoring last year when they won four individual titles.
Pittston Area, which was fifth in Class 3A, got titles from James Spindler at 160 and Julian Everitt at 132.
Spindler is 30-3 this season. The two-time defending champion is 113-25 for his career.
Everitt is 24-2 this season and 81-10 for his career, but has not wrestled since Jan. 18.
