Madelyn Keating was one of four freshmen who figured into the team scoring Sept. 1 when Mississippi State finished second out of five teams at The Opener at Mississippi College in Jackson.
The hosts defeated Mississippi State, 41-42. Both finished well in front of third-place Southern Mississippi with 83 points.
Keating was fourth on the team, third among the freshmen and 13th overall. She finished the 3.1-mile course in 19:10.46.
At Wyoming Area, Keating was a district champion and state medalist in both cross country and track and field. She will compete in both sports at Mississippi State.
