Wyoming Area started fast Wednesday night in Tunkhannock on the way to its first Wyoming Valley Conference Division 2 wrestling victory, beating the Tigers 45-30.

The Warriors won the first three bouts, five of the first six and seven of the first nine on the way to leads of 15-0, 27-6 and 39-12. At that point, they had clinched the victory that improved their season records to 1-2 in the division and 4-12 overall.

Caden Reynolds, at 215 pounds, and Shane Emsley, who needed just 24 seconds at 114, were a big part of the fast start.

Consecutive pins by Connor Novakowski and Jonathan Stone at 133 and 139 then clinched the team win.

Paul Panek added a decision at 189 and the Warriors took advantage of three forfeits by the Tigers.

Southern Tier Memorial Tournament

Chase Wilhelm, at 108 pounds, and Jonathan Stone, at 131, each posted second-round pins after receiving first-round byes Friday in the tournament at the First Arena in Elmira, N.Y.

Wilhelm and Stone were the only two Warriors still in the championship bracket of the tournament that continued into Saturday.

Connor Novakowski, at 124, and Nate Obrzut, at 285, each won their first bouts, lost the second, but bounced back with a win in the consolation brackets.

Caden Reynolds picked up a forfeit to advance in the consolation bracket at 215.
