Wyoming Area followed its second-lowest offensive production of the season with the most points its defense has allowed, leading the Lady Warriors to drop both games they played during the week.
The Lady Warriors slipped to 1-3 in Division 2 of the Wyoming Valley Conference and 3-11 overall. They rank fifth out of seven teams both in the division and in the race for seeding position in the District 2 Class 4A playoffs.
Nanticoke 70, Wyoming Area 39
Claire Aufiero scored 18 of her 28 points in the first quarter to get Nanticoke out to a high-scoring start on the way to Thursday’s home-court victory.
The second-place Trojanettes closed the first quarter on a 14-4 run to take a 31-12 lead.
Kate Reed scored 11 of her 19 points in the quarter.
Addison Gaylord led Wyoming Area with 14 points. Morgan Slusser added seven and Krea Bonita six.
Nanticoke shot 17-for-25 from the line, compared to 4-for-11 by Wyoming Area.
It was the least points scored by the Lady Warriors since the season opener Dec. 1.
Holy Redeemer 51, Wyoming Area 12
Holy Redeemer scored the last 15 points of the first quarter to open a 21-2 lead in Monday’s game at Wyoming Area.
Brooke Kroptavich led a balanced Lady Royals attack with 10 points.
Addison Gaylord led the Lady Warriors with five points and six rebounds.
Holy Redeemer, the last unbeaten in the division, built the lead to 38-7 at halftime.
