The Pittston Area boys basketball team finds itself struggling as it heads toward the end of the regular season.

The Patriots have dropped 10 of their last 11 games, including the last four. Both games this week resulted in losses by at least 18 points, making it three straight blowout defeats.

Pittston Area is 2-8 and tied for sixth in Division 1 of the Wyoming Valley Conference. The Patriots are 5-13 and currently positioned last of seven teams for the seeding into the District 2 Class 5A tournament.

Dallas shook off a fast start by Pittston Area and finished strong for Friday night’s road victory.

Mikey Cumbo scored 13 points and Nick Williams added 11 in a balanced offense for the Mountaineers.

Lucas LoPresto and Paul Jordan McGarry led the Patriots with 12 points each.

LoPresto and Matt Walter each hit a 3-pointer and scored seven points in the first quarter as Pittston Area took a 19-13 lead.

Dallas recovered to lead 27-22 at halftime and 40-31 going into the fourth quarter.

The Mountaineers closed with a 22-13 fourth quarter that included 7-for-8 from the line.

Wilkes-Barre Area 66, Pittston Area 38

Yariel Argueta scored 17 points to lead four players in double figures as first-place Wilkes-Barre Area handled visiting Pittston Area Tuesday.

David Jannuzzi added 11 points in the win while Evan Laybourn-Boddie and Melvin Egbeto had 10 each.

The Wolfpack opened leads of 15-5 after one quarter, 39-17 at halftime and 58-25 going into the fourth quarter.

Chris Scavo led the Patriot with nine points. Matt Walter added seven.
