Luca Argenio became the first Wyoming Area boys tennis player to post an unbeaten regular season at No. 1 singles with a win in Monday’s season finale.
Host Dallas won the match 4-1 with Argenio providing the only point for the Warriors.
Argenio went 12-0, setting a boys team record for most wins at No. 1 in a season.
The junior landed the second seed in the District 2 Class 2A singles tournament, which begins Tuesday at 9 a.m. at Kirby Park. The semifinals and finals are scheduled for 1 p.m. Wednesday.
Argenio topped Jon Florencio 6-1, 6-0 Monday. It was his 10th straight-set victory and gave him 15 set wins by 6-0 scores while winning 24 of 26 sets on the season.
William Hull of Wyoming Seminary and Michael Hamil of Wilkes-Barre Area are the only two players to take Argenio to a third set. Argenio won the first set in every match.
The number-two seed is the highest ever for a Warrior. Argenio will be trying to become the first Wyoming Area boy to win a district gold medal in tennis.
Ethan Borick from District 2 team champion Scranton Prep is the top seed. Hull is the fourth seed, behind Akhilesh Velaga from Scranton Prep.
The Warriors finished the season with a 4-7-1 record, including a 2-2 tie with Hazleton Area and fell one spot short of making the eight-team District 2 Class 2A team tournament.
