Pittston Area had three top-five individual varsity finishes Saturday in the Lackawanna County Commissioners Cross Country Invitational at McDade Park in Scranton.
Olivea Scalese and Isabella Dessoye were third and fifth out of 87 finishers in the girls race and Caden Boettger was fifth out of 145 boys.
Pittston Area was third out of eight teams in the girls standings.
Valley View beat out Wallenpaupack, 40-58, for the team title. Pittston Area finished with 101 points.
Lakeland’s Emily Black finished first in 19:34.9.
Scalese finished in 20:25.0 and Dessoye in 20:51.4.
Hannah Stoss was seventh in 21:10.9 and Kierstyn Orlandini was 25th for Wyoming Area, which did not have enough girls entered for a team score.
Pittston Area’s Elinor Schardien was 38th.
Wallenpaupack won the boys title with a score of 82. Abington Heights beat out Riverside for second on a tiebreaker after each posted a score of 110.
Pittston Area was sixth with 171.
Hanover Area was 14th and Wyoming Area 15th out of 16 teams.
Wallenpaupack’s Aiden Janowicz won in 16:18.6.
Boettger finished in 16:45.6.
Jakob Mead from Pittston Area was 18th.
Wyoming Area was led by Colby Walsh in 28th.
Hanover Area’s top two finishers, Preston Zadzura and Zhennoir Joseph, came in seventh and eighth.
BOYS SOCCER
Dallas 2, Lake-Lehman 1
The Mountaineers went up two goals in the first half and held on for a rivalry win over Lake-Lehman.
Devon Nelson and Carter Brunn scored a goal apiece for Dallas.
Andrew Mathes had the lone goal for Lake-Lehman. Andrew Chapple made nine saves for the Black Knights.
Hazleton Area 3, Pittston Area 1
Darian Haraschak scored two second-half goals to lead Hazleton Area past Pittston Area. Ricky Paredes opened the scoring for the Cougars by converting on a penalty kick opportunity.
Pittston Area’s only goal was scored by Gavin Anders.
Wyoming Valley West 2, Fair Lawn (N.J.) 1
The Spartans rallied from a halftime deficit to pick up a win over Fair Lawn High School, visiting from New Jersey.
Noah Fetko and Aidan Kaminski each scored for Valley West, with Kaminski and Luke Ginocchetti adding an assist each.
GIRLS SOCCER
Lake-Lehman 6, Dallas 1
Kinley Purdy and Ashley Hudak each scored three times, accounting for all six Lake-Lehman goals in a win over Dallas.
Betsy DiGiovanni had two assists for the Black Knights while Hudak, Brynleigh Bennett and Fin Norconk had one assist each.
Iris Hobson-Tomascik had the lone goal for Dallas. Sophia Maier made 14 saves for the Mountaineers.

Misericordia 24, Keystone 14
Trailing 14-0 just before halftime, the Cougars booted a field goal as time expired and turned it into 24 unanswered points in a season-opening victory.
Former Holy Redeemer standout Jacob Hunter scored a pair of rushing touchdowns in the third quarter to put Misericordia in front, and Shafeeq Frazier sealed the win with another score on the ground in the fourth.
Hunter finished with 164 yards passing and 63 on the ground. Misericordia’s defense held Keystone to just 239 total yards while pitching a shutout in the second half.

Wilkes 3, Alvernia 0
The Colonels shut out Alvernia at home to pick up their first win of the season.
Erin Edwards, Jess Shea and Sarah Eliff each scored for Wilkes.
