Pittston Area’s Isabella Dessoye finished sixth Thursday in the WVC Championship Meet.

MESHOPPEN — Pittston Area’s Isabella Dessoye finished eighth in the varsity girls race and the school’s boys team placed fourth out of 12 Thursday during the Ed Narkiewicz/Wyoming Valley Conference Coaches Championship Meet at the Wyoming County Fairgrounds.

Hazleton Area won the boys team title with 47 points and Lake-Lehman edged Crestwood for second place 66-70.

Northwest got a win from Michael Fritz and a fourth-place finish from Oliver Heintzelman, but Pittston Area outscored the Rangers 136-143 for fourth place.

Wyoming Area was ninth with 260 points.

Jakob Mead led the way for Pittston Area placing 11th with a time of 17:39.5 for the 3.08-mile course.

Colby Walsh led Wyoming Area, taking 19th in 18:06.5.

There were 115 finishers from 17 schools, including the five that did not have the five finishers necessary to post a team score.

The league standings also became final with the championship meet as three postponed regular-season cluster meets, none involving Pittston Area or Wyoming Area, were made up by using the results of the day to score teams head-to-head.

Pittston Area finished 13-3 for third place out of six teams in Division 1 boys. The Patriots were behind Hazleton Area (16-0) and Crestwood (14-2) and ahead of Dallas (10-6), Wilkes-Barre Area (9-7) and Wyoming Valley West (3-13).

Wyoming Area was fifth of six teams in Division 2 boys with its 5-11 record. The Warriors trailed Lake-Lehman (15-1), Holy Redeemer (11-5), Tunkhannock (8-8) and Berwick (7-9), but finished ahead of Nanticoke (1-14-1).

There were 98 girls finishers from 10 full teams and five other schools, including Wyoming Area, with individuals entered.

Crestwood won the title 41-61 over Dallas.

Pittston Area was fifth with 115 points.

Madison Hedglin from Dallas repeated as champion.

Dessoye was one of six runners to break the 20-minute mark, finishing in 19:50.7. Teammate Olivea Scalese was eighth, less than a second in front of Wyoming Area’s Hannah Stoss in ninth.

Pittston Area was 14-2 in the WVC regular season, good for third in Division 1 girls where Crestwood was 16-0 and Dallas 15-1. The Lady Patriots beat out Hazleton Area (12-4), Wilkes-Barre Area (4-12) and Wyoming Valley West (1-15).

Wyoming Area was 7-9 for a fourth-place tie in Division 2 girls. Lake-Lehman went 13-3, Holy Redeemer 11-5, Nanticoke 8-8, Tunkhannock 7-9 and Berwick 1-15.

The day’s schedule included a championship meet for junior high teams.

Pittston Area was one of seven full boys teams, but finished last. It was third of four junior high girls teams.

The Lake-Lehman boys and Crestwood girls won team titles.

Pittston Area’s Jameson Dessoye was 10th out of 81 boys.

Chase Evans represented Wyoming Area and was 59th.

Michaela Walsh and Alexis Noone from Pittston Area finished sixth and seventh out of 74 girls.

Oddalee Barnes was 55th for the best Wyoming Area finish.
