As the second batter in the April 27 rivalry game at Wyoming Area’s Atlas Field, Gabby Roman popped up into a double play, erasing Pittston Area’s Lili Hintze, who had led off the game with a base hit.

Roman spent the rest of the game making up for her performance on the first pitch she saw.

By the time she was finished, Roman had a home run, double, single and six RBI to land Pittston Area’s Most Valuable Player Award in the 16-6, non-league victory.

Roman and Wyoming Area’s Alexa Gasek received MVP plaques presented by the Luzerne County Constables.

After being held scoreless in the first, Pittston Area opened a 14-0 lead through three innings.

Hintze’s RBI single produced the first of five runs in the second. Roman had her first RBI on a groundball where she also reached on an error.

Roman singled in two runs and scored the second of her three runs as the lead grew to 9-0 in the third. She doubled in a run in the fourth and led off the sixth with a home run.

The top two spots in the order accounted for seven runs scored and eight driven in.

Hintze finished with four hits, three runs and two RBI. Roman scored three times.

The Lady Patriots pounded out 21 hits.

They got multiple hits from eight of the nine starters while the other, winning pitcher Samantha Herbert, drove in three runs.

Julia Long went 3-for-4 with two doubles and four runs scored.

Marina Antal, Gabby Gorzkowski, Jillian Haas, Mikaila Sarf and Julianna Cocco all had two hits.

Sarf drove in three runs and scored two. Cocco scored twice. Haas had a double.

Gasek and Kaia Brown each had a double and single for Wyoming Area.

Renee Haddock drove in three runs.

Josie Kivak added a double.

The Lady Warriors avoided te 10-run rule by scoring three runs each in the fourth and fifth innings.
