Greater Wyoming Area posted shutouts in both games to win Division 1 and advance to the District 31 Little League Minor Baseball semifinals.
GWA won one of the two divisions in the district on the 8-10-year-old level.
Dominic Giardano and Christian Cavalieri pitched the shutouts as GWA downed Kingston/Forty Fort June 22 and routed Back Mountain American 17-0 in three innings Tuesday.
Giardano struck out 10 in a four-hitter.
Cavalieri tossed a no-hitter in the game, which was abbreviated by the Mercy Rule.
Bryce Bauman, Giardano and Logan Wolfe had the hits against Kingston/Forty Fort. Bauman scored three times and Wolfe had a double.
Tommy Mazar and Carter Pacchioni each had three of the 18 hits against BMA.
GWA will play again in Wednesday’s semifinals.
District 16 8-10-year-olds
Greater Pittston Township National and Greater Pittston Township American will meet in Wednesday’s semifinals after GP National won Division 1 and American took second in Division 2.
Seeds were determined by three-team, round-robins.
GPT National pounded Hanover 30-2 in three innings Tuesday then topped Plains 5-3 Thursday.
Connor Yonki drove in four runs with an inside-the-park homer and triple against Hanover.
Plains also beat Hanover, setting up Thursday’s game to decide the division.
Rocco Skula struck out seven against Plains to get the win, which was saved by Santino Rynkiewicz.
Anthony Cerasaro and Joey Basile drove in runs.
GPT American came from behind to edge Wilkes-Barre 8-7 Sunday, but lost 14-1 to Mountain Top in four innings Tuesday.
District 16 Majors
Mason Slusser fired a four-inning no-hitter with eight strikeouts Thursday to lead Greater Pittston Township to an 11-0 victory over Wilkes-Barre.
Jaden Vazquez and had two hits and drove in two runs for GPT.
GPT used the win to finish as one of three teams with a 2-2, round-robin record and grab the second seed on the tiebreaker of least runs allowed per inning.
Mountain Top used a four-run first inning to defeat GPT 6-1 June 21 and Plains scored multiple runs in each at bat to defeat GPT 13-1 in five innings Monday.
Harrison George capped the Mountain Top first inning with a three-run homer.
Mason Slusser and Cody Karboski had the GPT hits against Mountain Top.
Malakai Vanderburg led the way, going 3-for-3 with a three-run homer and three runs scored to lead Plains.
GPT avoided the 10-run rule for one inning when Caden Rossi’s infield single drove in a run to cut into a 10-0 deficit.
District 31 Majors
Michael Fanti went 3-for-3, including two hits in the 15-run first inning, as Greater Wyoming Area pounded Back Mountain American 20-5 Thursday.
Fanti’s first inning included an inside-the-park home run.
Dillon Kivak struck out nine and allowed just one hit in three innings.
Kingston/Forty Fort defeated GWA 7-4 Tuesday despite four scoreless innings by GWA pitcher Cameron DePriest.
District 16 9-11-year-olds
Mountain Top defeated Greater Pittston Township 5-2 Thursday.
Jake Hulse and Johan Marte each had two hits for GPT.
District 16 Junior
Hanover defeated Pittston 12-4 in the third and deciding game June 22 to claim the district title.
Hanover forced the final game of the best-of-three series with an 11-0 win the day before.
