Pittston Area placed Marina Antal on the first team and Samantha Herbert on the second team in Class 5A when the Pennsylvania High School Softball Coaches Association revealed its all-state team this week.

Antal was named as a third baseman and Herbert, who spent most of the season as a pitcher, was selected as a utility player.

Antal batted .515 with five home runs. Both of those statistics led the Lady Patriots as she also did in on-base percentage (.570), slugging percentage (.897), OPS (1.467) and hits (35). She was second on the team in RBI (27), runs scored (28) and triples (three).

Herbert drove in a team-high 35 runs by batting .397 with five doubles, four homers and a team-leading five triples. While pitching all but six of the team’s innings, she was 10-9 with 82 strikeouts and a 4.19 earned run average.

Antal and Herbert were among 14 Wyoming Valley Conference players recognized. That group included two repeat first-team selections, Lake-Lehman catcher Kirsten Finarelli in Class 3A and Tunkhannock pitcher McKenzie Hannon in 4A.
