Grace Angelella’s college field hockey career is off to a fast start.
The freshman forward from Wyoming Area shares the goal scoring lead for Lafayette College, which has a winning record on the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I level.
Now 2 ½ years removed from major surgery to repair hip dysplasia, Angelella has started all nine games for the Leopards, who were 1-1 in the Patriot League and 5-4 overall going into the weekend.
Angelella earned Patriot League Rookie of the Week honors Sept. 11 after scoring her three goals in consecutive games, helping Lafayette to wins that improved the team record at the time to 4-1.
After getting to a loose ball in front of the cage, Angelella scored her first college goal three minutes into the second half of a 4-0 victory over Fairfield. Her goal gave Lafayette a 3-0 lead.
Then, Angelella scored the game’s first two goals in a 4-2 victory over Drexel. She set up in front to convert passes from teammates, one on an accurate shot three minutes into the game and another on a redirection.
At Wyoming Area, Angelella played all over the field as a forward, midfielder and defender. She made a big impact, earning all-star honors as a freshman, and worked her way back from surgery to serve as team captain in her senior year.
