Brandon Matthews bounced back from his first two missed cuts of the season by landing in the top 10 in a Web.com Tour event for the first time in his career.
Matthews was on the rise April 22 when the North Mississippi Classic was halted by rain, reverting back to 54-hole scores at the end of the day as the final official total.
The former state high school champion from Pittston Area was 2-under through 8 holes and had moved into a tie for seventh when the scores for the three completed rounds were determined to be official final totals, leaving him in a tie for 10th.
The finish earned Matthews $11,785.71 and vaulted him from 103rd to 74th on the money list of the second-highest ranking professional golf tour in North American. His season total stands at $19,329.
Matthews, 23, opened the season by making the cut and earning money in his first three events. He was 4-for-6 going into this weekend where an opening round 71 left him tied for 13th after 18 holes at the United Leasing & Finance Championship in Newburgh, Ind.
The Web.com Tour will take a week off before resuming action in Tennessee with the Knoxville Open May 10-13.
Matthews shot rounds of 72, 69 and 70 to finish at 5-under-par, 211 in Mississippi.
Going into this week’s tournament, Matthews ranked fourth on the tour in average driving distance at 313.3 yards.
