A burning desire to succeed led Sarah Holweg on a mission that took her straight into history.

It also led her to Pennsylvania’s highest honors.

Wyoming Area’s Holweg was selected to the third team in Class 4A when the Pennsylvania Sportswriters All-State Girls Basketball team was released Tuesday.

“It wasn’t even a thought in my mind going into the season,” Holweg said. “I was very excited and surprised when I found out I made it.”

The explosive Holweg led Wyoming Area on a school-record, 11-game winning streak to open her senior season.

Wyoming Area coach Chad Lojewski will remember Holweg as a tremendous shooter with a confidence that carried the Warriors by example.

“She had a little quiet composure to her,” Lojewski said. “When she needed to get emotional, she did.”

Yet, the better the opponent, the better Holweg seemed to play.

“I love playing under pressure, in bigger games with bigger crowds,” said Holweg, who is committed to play NCAA Division II basketball at West Chester University. “I love the atmosphere. I love that coach Chad would put the pressure on me to do something big.”

More often than not, Holweg responded to it.

Holweg scored a school-record, 44 points against Dallas and 41 against Nanticoke five days apart in the District 2 playoffs to end her sophomore season.

After her last game for the Lady Warriors, Holweg was the leading scorer in two senior all-star games, including hitting seven 3-pointers while scoring 27 points in the inaugural Battle of the Valley Classic.

Holweg averaged 16.1 points, 3.7 assists, 3.2 steals and 3.1 rebounds as a senior when she made 53 shots from 3-point range and hit 74 percent from the foul line. She set several school records, including becoming the career scoring leader with 1,560 points to go along with 241 made 3-pointers, 422 rebounds, 398 assists and 254 steals.

Wyoming Area finished 16-9 this season for their third straight winning record after going more than a decade without one.
